Expedition

This expedition was different from all my previous ones. So far, I had solely traveled with a motorcycle (mostly the old Goldwing) and on foot. This time, we used a car.

It was Saturday and we were planning to take the car for some substantial shopping. This would have brought us close to the geohash anyway, so we decided to directly go for it afterwards.

The geohash was right on a motorway, so the only way to reach it safely was to drive through it. This called of course for a Speed racer achievement, and to proof it properly, it helps to be as a couple in the car. I did not take my SLR camera with me this time. We took a few photos and the video of proof with my mobile.

The maximum legal speed on the road where the geohash resided was 100 km/h. The road was a bit busy, so it was tricky to maintain a constant speed. We passed through the geohash at 105 km/h. This was a bit faster than the maximum allowed, however, in Spain you only get a ticket if you are more then 10 % above the maximum, so I consider this to be within the permissible range for the Speed racer achievement.

The video of proof shows the navigation device while driving through the geohash. At the right, four values are shown. From top to bottom:

  1. Predicted time of arrival at the target
  2. Distance to the target
  3. Speed
  4. Altitude

At the moment of reaching the target, the device switches from navigation mode to non-navigation mode, which has another preselected set of displayed values. In particular, instead of speed, the angle of direction is displayd, so we did not instantly accelerate to 219 km/h!
