Narrative
Friday, 9:30AM
As the stock market opens, mere hours after the failure of the auto industry bailout bill in the Senate, Jevanyn is frantically pondering the answer to one question:
How will this affect the location of this weekend's geohash?!?!?
Minutes passed like hours, until Jevanyn had his answer. The geohash for Friday was in Raritan Bay, the Saturday and Sunday geohashes were a few miles apart along the Turnpike near Philadelphia. Interesting that they were so close. He also looked at the Atlantic City, New Jersey graticule: Saturday and Sunday were in the wetlands near a couple of towns along the Parkway.
But wait: if the geohshes are that close to the southern edge, then Newburgh, New York should be pretty close. A shift of the map, and voila! The Saturday geohash was close to Route 94, just west of Newton. It appeared to be on a public street, in an easily identifiable location (still geohashing without a GPS). And Sunday, just outside of town in the other direction, also close to Rte 94!
But we had plans for the weekend; and December means "celebrating the season", which seems to require spending thousands of hours in store after store....
But we didn't have plans after 10PM. Well, we did now.
Saturday, 10:30PM
After several stops for shopping, we're finally on our way north. We pass a farm equipment rental store called, I kid you not, Rent-a-Hoe. Gwynnath and I agreed that this name was redundant.
The geohash was one block up a road from the highway, so of course, the directions from Google took us cross-country for several miles and up the cross-street from the other direction. There were some large farm houses and such along the way, however, many of which were decorated for Christmas, and still brightly lit despite the hour.
We arrived and took our pictures, jumping back into the relative warmth of the van. We had 20 minutes to prepare for the second part of our jaunt.
