This achievement was proposed in the past, but has been rejected, because it is near identical to the previously rejected Samaritan achievement and the same rejection reasons apply. Please read the discussion page for more details.
As per the page proposed achievements: If an achievement has strong opposition and the reasons for opposition are not resolved through discussion, then the proposed achievements category is replaced with the rejected achievements category, the reason explained succinctly on the page, and the page otherwise marked to make sure it isn't confused with an achievements page.Good Samaritan Ribbon
(While in the proposal stage, Not to be confused with the rejected Samaritan achievement) This ribbon would be awarded to the Geohasher that stops on an expedition to help someone in need. Another option for a name could be Random Act of Kindness achievement but that is pretty long.
This could be claimed whether or not the hash is reached; In other words the helping does not need to occur at the hash.
Some good examples of stopping to help:
- give someone directions (who asks)
- help an elderly person cross the street
- change a flat/offer tools for use (bike or car)
- allow someone to use your phone to make a call
- give someone first-aid
- single-handedly round up the lion that escaped from the zoo
- save the world from your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate
Note that if your offer to help is rejected, much like the No Tresspassing, do not force the issue. Wish them luck and move on. In your best John Cleese voice: Trying to assist while yelling "But I'm Helping" while they threaten you to go away is, in fact, not helping.
Proof
A picture with the person you helped would be good. If they don't want to be in a picture, than a photo of what you helped with or a detailed description would work as well.
An IMPORTANT NOTE that discretion and common sense should be followed if coming to the aid of a serious accident.
Ribbon
Not sure how to create a ribbon but good image candidates might be:
- Image from xkcd #1394 with different words
- Third panel from xkcd #663
