Expedition
As soon as i got home from work Cam and I headed for the hash in Ferntree Gully at 4:45pm on our bikes. Looking at google maps we couldn't really tell what the area we were going to was but it looked like it was just of a bike path in the suburb of Upper Fentree Gully. It looked to be a fairly boring and easy geohash which i had ridden all except for the last 200m of before. The train that i caught back from a previous hash with Felix ( 2012-11-06 -37 145) passes within 110m of the hash. Four kilometers into bike ride Cam got a flat tyre and had to walk home so I continued the ride alone. Riding along Quarry road in Upper Ferntree Gully I realised that the hash was in the old Ferntree Gully Quarry and that it was going to be a little bit harder. After riding up the aptly named Hilltop road i discovered that the "suburban bike path" was actually an access road that goes along a ridge in the cliffs of the quarry with a 2m barbed wire fence and a sign suggesting that i maybe shouldn't continue. After some hesitation i decided that being on my fourth day of a consecutive hash I knew i had to continue. I stashed the bike in the bushes and climbed the fence. Walking about 50m along the access road i worked out that the hash was far enough off the path that i was going to have to climb another barbed wire fence with a sign saying "unstable cliffs. Keep clear". The area between the path and the hash was well vegetated with plenty of things to hold onto and far more stable that some other areas of the quarry so i decided i would be safe to continue. I snapped a few quick pictures at the hash and made a quick exit and road down to the Ferntree Gully hotel for a pint of Guinness.
