Participants

  • Steve
  • Jethro the Greyhound

The Waiting...

As a past Geohasher who got distracted by life, work, family and child, Steve had not visited any GeoHashes for a very long time! However, he had at some point been tinkering with some Geo/coordinate calculation modules in Perl and figured that a good test application would be one that alerted him to any local geohashes within 15km of his home.

Steve forgot about this script running away on a server, with no hashes falling locally for some time.

One morning, waiting in his inbox...

This geohash was only 200m from Steve's home! Time for a very short deviation on a dog walk!

Expedition

Steve set out to walk Jethro the Greyhound as normal. Having walked the first part of his normal route, he deviated down Guillemot Street to get onto Ringmead. On a different route and somewhat earlier than normal, Steve and Jethro encountered another dog walker, also with a retired racing greyhound! A short conversation ensued as it transpired that both dogs had been rehomed by The Dogs Trust at Harefield, London and were of similar age!

After this brief conversation, they continued onto Ringmead, stopping briefly at the geohash to take a photo, before returning home.
