This achievement was proposed in the past, but has been rejected, because the achievement would not add anything interesting or new. Please read the discussion page for more details.
As per the page proposed achievements: If an achievement has strong opposition and the reasons for opposition are not resolved through discussion, then the proposed achievements category is replaced with the rejected achievements category, the reason explained succinctly on the page, and the page otherwise marked to make sure it isn't confused with an achievements page. This achievement will require geohashers to bring a "Citation Needed" sign to the hashpoint and take a picture holding it.
Origin
If you are unaware, "Citation Needed" is a joke from 285: Wikipedian Protester that is often found on the what if? site and the explainxkcd wiki. It is a running joke to put [citation needed] after statements that are trivial or blatantly obvious.
-ExplainXKCD wiki.
I thought that doing this might be funny and also spread the word about xkcd (and subsequently geohashing).
Criteria to obtain achievement
- You must bring your own Citation Needed sign to the hashpoint.
- Exception: The group of geohashers that you planned the journey with need only 1 sign for all of you.
- Example: Hasher 1, Hasher 2, and Hasher 3 are heading to a hashpoint as a group. Hasher 3 brings the Citation Needed sign. At the hashpoint there is Hasher 4, who does not have a Citation Needed sign. Hasher 4 cannot get the achievement although they are at the hashpoint.
- Exception: The group of geohashers that you planned the journey with need only 1 sign for all of you.
- Take a picture with you and/or your group holding the sign. Your hand must be touching the sign for it to count.
- The "Citation Needed" text can be in any color. Bonus points if you have it in proper Wikipedia format and colors.
- The sign should be made before you leave your place of residence, but is not required [for the sign to be made before you leave] to obtain the achievement.
- The sign should be visible while you make your way to the hashpoint, but is not required [to be visible on the way to the hashpoint] to obtain the achievement.
Ribbon
It should probably include a Citation Needed sign, like the proposed "Wikipedia Achievement". I would insert it, but I would probably get stuck on deciding what the picture is.
If there's any issues with how this was formatted, feel free to fix them. If not, remove these two sentences.
