Image:2020-10-08Pt2 aliens.jpg| Of course it's a crappy cell phone picture! But it really doesn't capture the scene well with all the mist and field of cut corn stalks. Zooming in on my computer, I actually think it's a truck parked on the edge of a pond with additional lights attached to it.

Expedition

This is Part 2 of a Double-Hash. Part 1 can be found here.

After stopping for gas outside Allegany State Park, I continued down I-86 toward the lake and Pennsylvania, watching the sun set. By the time I got off the highway, it was pretty dark and I was relying on my Phone GPS to guide me. I've had bad experiences with my written directions in PA as intersections aren't always marked well. I was able to navigate to the hashroad without difficulty, but halfway up the road, I came across a very strange sight. Think of your typical alien abduction story: Country road with no one around, mist and bright lights. Being totally unprepared for this sight, I didn't want to slam on the brakes to pull over for a picture. I figured I could stop on the way back. My initial impression was it was farm equipment it a very wet field with standing water, but boy, did it evoke that Alien/UFO landing image.

Continuing up the road, I crested the hill by the hash and pulled into someone's driveway at the top to turn around to be on the closer side for the hash reading. Unfortunately, there were VERY steep ditches on both sides so there wasn't any way to pull over or stop. I had some time, but when I was turning around, I could see another car a hill or two back so I would have to be quick getting the Hash evidence. Pulling slowly down the hill, I stopped as close as I could to the ditch and grabbed a picture of the GPS. It's definitely not as close as I'd like, but I was within the Circle of Uncertainty (barely) and called it good. If that car wasn't coming up behind me, I would have taken more time and leaned over to the passenger side of the car for a reading at least a couple feet closer. Since I was on the blind side of a hill, I would have put everyone in danger for any car that came over going the speed limit. So I really didn't want to stick around very long.

On the way back, I stopped at the field with the 'Aliens' and got a picture, just to show how close I was to actually being abducted! The rest of the drive home was uneventful, but I'm glad I stopped for gas when I did, because I think I would have been about 10 miles short of Irving before running out of gas.
