The Manchester graticule is at latitude 53, longitude -2. It contains, in no particular order:

Manchester, Chester, Liverpool, St Helens, Preston, Bolton, Blackburn, Stockport, Macclesfield, Wigan as well as numerous other built up areas, including the greater parts of the Stoke-on-Trent and Wrexham areas. Water geohashes are rare, but the graticule does contain the estuaries of the Mersey and Ribble rivers, as well as a small part of Morecambe Bay. Anyone wishing to go exploring these risky bodies of waters should seek local expert safety advice. That said, there is the Leeds-Liverpool canal, which is reasonably safe.

Visiting Geohashers

  • Angel lives just off the northern edge, in Lancaster, but may occasionally walk over the boundary (and visits family near Wigan, Preston and Manchester sometimes)
  • Sourcerer visits several times per year to see good friends who like beer and curry. At last there has been a reachable point but so far no drag-along and pub/curry geohash potential.
  • Monty Visited graticule as part of a coast-line trip
  • MagicIan grew up in this graticule and still has family and friends living here.
  • Dustlined lives just off the eastern edge, but given the number of hills in his vicinity, is probably most likely to be found in this graticule.

2024

2022

  • 2022-02-06 53 -2 The hashpoint is very conveniently located in Altrincham's Stamford Quarter shopping centre, with the choice of access either in the shop or on the roof car park. KarMann is planning on being there around 16:00, and thought there was a special achievement for reaching the same hash point at different altitudes, but it doesn't seem to be a thing, after all. Still, it's been very nearly two years since my last hash for some odd reason, so worth it.

2020

  • 2020-02-23 53 -2 The hashpoint for today is in the wood near a golf course by Marple. KarMann is going to catch a bus, but the last couple of hundred metres may be treacherous.
  • 2020-02-01 53 -2 KarMann found a hashpoint just half a mile from home, but over the water in Chorlton Water Park.

2019

  • 2019-02-02 53 -2 Hashpoint is right in the Ashton-under-Lyne Ikea. I think it might even be in the cafeteria. I'm getting my Swedish meatballs on today!

2018

2017

  • 2017-11-18 53 -2: KarMann got his first UK geohash, after a few years of mostly inactivity in Arizona, and waiting most of a few months for a well-situated geohash here.

2015

2013

  • 2013-04-07 53 -2: Longhairedred happened to be staying at a friend's house just down the road from this geohash, so walked up after lunch
  • 2013-08-11 53 -2: Angel (talk) saw a hash 9 miles away, straight up the National Cycle Network route 91; but waited until mum got home from work, and got a lift to earn a drag-along acheivement instead of jogging.

2012

2011

  • Everyone is sleeping but Sourcerer visits several times per year to see good friends who like beer and curry. Sooner or later there will be a reachable point, perhaps with drag-along and pub/curry geohash potential.
  • 2011-07-27 53 -2: Planned by Monty as the first part of a coast-to-coast triplet. Reached (though not fully photographed), report still pending. (map).
  • 2011-05-01 53 -2: A field right next to the M6 motorway between Crewe and Newcastle, and only a couple of metres off a footpath. Benjw and MrsBenjw called in on the way home from a birthday party in Staffordshire.

2010

  • Or two.

2009

  • Everyone slept for a year.
