Train service to Königs Wusterhausen (on the RE2 and S46 lines) is frequent enough that I didn't need to plan carefully. I got a ticket for Berlin zones ABC, made my way to Berlin-Ostkreuz, and took the next RE2 train one stop.

OpenStreetMap showed a fairly direct route to the point, which passed through nice forests and along a lovely lane with fun sculptures before reaching the waterworks. There was a sign at the corner describing a 1972 airplane crash here, with a memorial site farther along inside the fence. The point seemed to be close to the fence but not necessarily inside.

I retraced the same route to the train station, then crossed under the tracks to the center of town and had a nice lunch before catching another RE2 back.
