Expedition

Danatar

This is my eleventh hashiversary, so I wanted to visit the hashpoint, even though I have some important things to finish this weekend. At 2 p.m. I left the important things behind and took the tramway to the train station, then the suburban train to Freital-Deuben. From there I took the "D" bus until its last stop at Kleinopitz, then I started walking. Finding the way was easy, I mostly had to follow one single street then a grass-covered track. While that track went through the forest I saw a fox walk between the trees. Soon after I was near the hashpoint. There a thin meadow went alongside the track and the spot was on it. Because of the very slight rain it was not easy to get the coordinates right but I found them at around 15:30. Next I ate the celebratory hashiversary cake which I had bought on the way. I was still too early for hash o'clock so I climbed the raised hide that was near the hashpoint and waited there out of the rain, reading a bit. By 4 p.m. nobody else had arrived, so I went to the spot again, now it was on the track.

Then I started my way back, but instead of going back I continued on the other side of the hashpoint, towards Oberhermsdorf. It was more than one hour until the next bus came (both the line at Kleinopitz and the line at Oberhermsdorf were scheduled for 17:12) so I took the new and longer route to pass the time. After a short walk along a very unused forest track I came to a meadow. While I was walking across it I saw two ears peek out of the grass right next to the treeline. I froze and saw a fox walk to and fro in the grass. After a while it was slowly walking in my direction, not noticing me. I had my camera to my eye, my umbrella covering me and the only thing that moved was my finger on the camera trigger. The fox came to about 30 m before it stopped, then it sat there for a rather long moment staring at me, probably wondering what that strange thing with the blue trunk and the big black round thing on top was. Then it suddenly turned around and ran away as fast as it could. I continued across the meadow, then across a harvested corn field until I reached a road that went to Oberhermsdorf. At the bus station I read until the "E" bus arrived which brought me to Freital-Deuben, from there I returned by train and tramway to continue doing my important things.

by attempting a hash point exactly on the Eleventh anniversary of his inaugural geohashing expedition.
