In a meadow, about 5km east of Neutraubling.

dawidi with Tomcat and Hans

Tomcat had announced, about two weeks prior, that he would like to celebrate his birthday by going geohashing this year, and naturally Hans and I agreed to join him.

Having visited the coordinates for the 26th in Landau an der Isar to celebrate there, we ate at a mexican restaurant in Straubing. After I had finally finished eating at 23:15, we got back in the car. It started raining harder as we raced through the night, back north on the federal road and then west on the Autobahn to Regensburg. Tomcat's driving style was a bit more aggressive than usual, I think...

At 23:45, we were at the Rosenhof exit, about 1.8km west of the hash, and it had stopped raining a few kilometers earlier. We drove on somewhat muddy field tracks, and got out of the car with about 300m and eight minutes to go. At a fast pace, we made it across a snowy, muddy field through the dark and onto a soaking wet meadow. At 70m from the hash, a line of reed appeared in our flashlights - a ditch! With flowing water in it! Luckily, Hans quickly found a narrow spot, jumped over it successfully, and we followed.

The hashpoint was marked by some molehills, and after we had decided which one of them was the exact spot, we looked at the clock. With just under a minute to go, we managed to take pictures of our GPSes exactly at midnight, plus a group portrait, and started walking back. Due to unsuitable shoes, Tomcat slipped and got his feet wet trying to jump back over the creek.

The rest of the drive was uneventful (besides passing by within a few meters of the 2009-01-31 48 12 hashpoint). We arrived at my place around 0:30, and Tomcat and Hans went home.
