In Cypress Lawn Memorial Park (a graveyard) in Colma, California (a necropolis)
Participants
Plans
I have to be in the East Bay until early afternoon and San Francisco at 7 pm but in between I can probably make it there. Perhaps I can look for the graves of the handful of famous people also buried there.
Expedition
I had less time than I anticipated - by the time I reached Colma BART it was already around 4:30, and I had plans to meet my sibling for dinner around 5:45. The train had arrived just minutes too late to catch the ECR, so I had to wait nearly the full 15 minutes for the next one. Once I got off the bus, I hurried through the cemetery to the point, quickly took some pictures, and hurried back to the bus stop. I successfully made it to my dinner plans on time - a couple minutes early, in fact.
Since the hash was in a graveyard, there were coffin potato winners. Originally I thought the point lay on the MacDonald family grave, but after further wandering around and getting better GPS accuracy I judged it more likely that the Elkington and Bendle families (seemingly unrelated people under the same headstone? Avis Bendle was born in 1918, the same year Rollo Elkington died) were the real winners. Samuel F. Cooper was also nearby and probably within the circle of uncertainty.
