In the Baltic Sea, about 150m from the shore near Hohwacht.
Schorhr and AE, with dawidi from 49, 12
After dawidi returned from his virgin graticule expedition at 2009-08-27 54 9, we hopped in AE's car and headed for Hohwacht.
By the time we had parked the car and found the boat rental hut, it was about 16:45, and the boat rental guy said he'd leave at 18:00 and wanted us to be back before that. Since the hut was quite exactly one kilometer from the hashpoint, we'd have to do about 2km in roughly an hour - based on dawidi's previous water hashes where he measured about 5-6kph, that seemed feasible.
The pedal boat turned out to be rather inefficient, requiring a lot of power to keep up 3.5kph. But the water was exceptionally clear and smoother than one would expect the sea to be; there was almost no wind, and the sun was behind clouds so the temperature was comfortable. We made it to the coordinates and took the usual pictures; only when we started to pedal back, we discovered we had drifted over 100m farther into the sea within a few minutes. From the view of the shore, you couldn't really tell. We went full throttle again, heading for the beach near the boat rental. On the way, Schorhr went online with his phone and posted greetings "from the sea" to the wiki and the IRC channel.
After returning the boat, we drove to the next cove to the east for a couple of geocaches along the shore. That turned out to be a pleasant, but rather long walk on the beach. By the time we got back to the car, it was past 21:00 and completely dark (but we had brought flashlights).
