This expedition was the first hashpoint they attempted during their elevenfold multihash tour.
Expedition / Fails
As laid out on the 2015-08-02 48 16 page, the hashers tried to access this hashpoint to shorten their overall tour. They had better let that one go, as it turned out desastrous for them. "A failure to plan is a plan to fail" they say, and this expedition could make for a perfect failure blueprint. If you are trying to make every mistake possible, what would you do? Here's what:
- try to hash in the middle of the night in some hilly forest a couple of kilometres away from every civilization
- don't check your map you have printed out on paper but blindly follow your satnav
- try driving a fat beemer up a steep forest dirttrack (don't bring a knife to a gunfight, I guess...)
- notice your error, but now all GPS and broadband reception is gone and you're utterly lost
- notice that you forgot your 'real' satnav at home
- try to turn same fat beemer around on muddy, steep ground next to a precipice
- finally get back to the main road only to turn into the wrong direction
- keep driving into the wrong direction for 30 minutes when you're already in a hurry
- scream "fml!" in frustration
Not only did that little detour cost them more than two hours, they also nearly wrecked their ride. But in the end they managed to find their way back to the motorway and could continue their tour.
