Plans

Will try to head out in the morning and make a stop at a cottage by Warsaw to exercise the dogs for a few hours. After that, will head to the Corning Graticule and make a quick stop in a field(around 2pm) to hopefully add another graticule to my Minesweeper progress. We may go to a movie in the morning so that would affect my schedule and in that case, I'd probably get out to the hash around 5 or 5:30pm. This is a good chance to have an actual meetup so I will message the active Rochester pair and see if we can make that happen.

Expedition

We had not yet checked out the points when fellow geohasher Pedalpusher alerted us to a possible meetup on the weekend. Being as we had never met another geohasher yet, we were raring to go. Pedalpusher was bringing apple crisp so we packed some hot water for tea and cocoa. Pulling up to the road we recognized the house and barns on the corner and as we started up the road we realized that just over two years ago we had been at this very same point, whoa Déjà vu. We stopped approximately perpendicular at the point and noticed a car down the road turning around. Suspicions abound, as it passed us on the way back Angel Food remarked "That's the smile of a geohasher." All parties disembarked from their vehicles and stood by the edge of the field and said "yup, it's that way." Winter wheat had been planted in the field making it green, quite a change compared to fall yellows it was surrounded by. We traveled to the point, snapped our happy mugs and returned to the vehicles for some well earned meetup snacks. Despite the 40ºF temperature we stood around for a hour chatting up some great geohashing memories and future goals. We hope to see Pedalpusher around again sometime.

I got up a bit later than I anticipated(being on call sucks when you get a few calls in the middle of the night) and got done making the apple crisp a bit later than I would have liked. I updated the meetup time, packed the dogs in the car and we were on our way around noon for a good run at the cottage by Warsaw, NY. I was surprised to see so much snow there but the dogs loved it as we hiked around a bit. Knowing it would take about an hour to get to the hash from there, we left at 14:30.

Past Lima, NY, I saw my turn and when I got on Clay St, there was a purplish car going slow and I thought "was this them?" but it turned out to be an older gentleman going for a Sunday drive. As I passed him though, I realized I forgot to turn on my GPS and didn't know which field to stop at. Continuing slowly down the road, the GPS finally told me I had gone a bit too far so I made a quick U-Turn and headed back. I liked that the field wasn't cut corn-stalks for the dogs and as I approached the hash, I saw a white car pulled over and was pretty sure it was fellow hashers waiting. Pulling over myself, we all got out and greeted each other and headed into the field to the hash. Both dogs were very well behaved, and happily,Simon didn't jump on anyone. We got our pictures and headed back to the cars for refreshments and had a good time, despite the cold wind. Right before I left, I noticed the moon rising and thought it was a nicely balanced by the lone tree at the edge of the field. I'm definitely looking forward to future meetups with the Hic Sunt Laganum team.
