• [6/10] 2010-08-02 48 -122 (Bellingham, WA): in an undeveloped property near Birch Bay: thwarted by Mother Nature.
• [6/9] 2010-07-29 48 -123 (Victoria, BC): on a side-road off Bear Mountain Parkway: SUCCESS, via mountain bike.
• [5/8] 2010-07-24 48 -123 (Victoria, BC): off Ardmore Point in the middle of Saanich Inlet: SUCCESS, via kayak.
• [4/7] 2010-07-18 48 -123 (Victoria, BC): just off Mt. Newton Cross Road: SUCCESS, with permission to enter the field.
• [3/6] 2010-07-17 48 -123 (Victoria, BC): near the Malahat Summit: thwarted due to a no trespassing sign :-(
• [3/5] 2010-06-06 48 -123 (Victoria, BC): few blocks from Mackenzie & Shelbourne: SUCCESS, in the rain again.
• [2/4] 2010-04-01 48 -123 (Victoria, BC): just off Millstream Rd: SUCCESS, despite the rain.
• [1/3] 2009-08-08 48 -123 (Victoria, BC): near Butchart Gardens: SUCCESS, right at the entrance to Benvenuto B&B.
• [0/2] 2009-06-22 48 -123 (Victoria, BC): Coles Bay: thwarted due to time constraints (would have waded 8m into the ocean to get the point otherwise).

Retro Expedition Candidates

Here's a list of potential retro expeditions to take and why.

• 2008-05-21 Vancouver: Date the Geohashing web comic was published.
  • Looks like a short walk from the Gabriola Island ferry.

• 2005-05-26 Victoria: Origin date of XKCD web comic.
  • Looks quite accessible on Salt Spring Island

• 1998-09-19 Victoria: Date my wife & I got married (in the same graticule no less), which would qualify for the Wedding anniversary geohash achievement.
  • In the bush near Jordan River -- looks doable though.

• 1972-08-02 Victoria: My birthday in my local graticule, which would qualify for the Displaced origin geohash achievement.
  • Looks fairly accessible out in East Sooke.

• 1972-08-02 Montreal: My birthday in my birth graticule, which would qualify for the Origin geohash achievement.
  • It actually looks pretty doable. Just got to get myself to the Montreal area first, that's all.

Wenslayer earned the Ambassador achievement by obtaining permission from the homeowner at 1271 Mt. Newton X-Road in Saanich, BC to access the (48, -123) geohash on 2010-07-18.

Wenslayer earned the No trespassing consolation prize by almost reaching the (48, -123) geohash on 2010-07-17.

Wenslayer earned the Puppet Master Geohash achievement by manipulating his parents to reach the (49, -123) geohash on 2010-07-04.

Wenslayer earned the Bicycle geohash achievement by cycling 35 km to the (48, -123) geohash on 2010-04-01.

Wenslayer earned the Drag-along achievement by dragging his son to the (48, -123) geohash on 2009-08-08.

Wenslayer earned the Land geohash achievement by reaching the (48, -123) geohash on 2009-08-08.

Wenslayer earned the My kingdom for a boat consolation prize by being prevented from reaching the (48, -123) geohash on 2009-06-22 by an impassable and unforeseen ocean that didn't show up on the satellite map.

Wenslayer earned the Police Geohash Achievement by being denied access to the grounds of the William Head Institution where the Geohash coordinate lay by Correctional Service Canada (armed) officers while attempting the (48, -123) geohash on 2009-06-13.
