Part one of a double hash. Take an IRE from Karlsruhe to Mühlacker and bike from the station. At 12:38, I planned to leave towards Wissembourg, via Bretten and karlsruhe.

I left my home at about 9:45 and biked to Karlsruhe-Durlach to catch the 10:08 IRE (InterRegioExpress) to Stuttgart, which brought me to Mühlacker by 10:40. From there, I rode through an Industrial Area and through the forest, where I found the Hashpoint, easily accessible, about 5 meters from the path.

At 11:30, I left the hashpoint and went to the opens-on-request-railway crossing, only about 100 meters from the Hashpoint. This type of railway crossings are closed by default and only open, when you press a button (and no trains are nearby). There was a bridge nearby (which I used on the way there), but I really wanted to try this out.

After crossing the rails, I biked back to Mühlacker. I planned to take the S9 departing at 12:38, so I had plenty of time left, when I arrived there. I then rode through Mühlacker, bought some food and looked for campaign posters for the German election in three weeks. Good to see that there are pirates in Mühlacker...

At 12:38, I left Mühlacker and took the S9 to Bretten. The reason I took this detour (aside from the fact that this way I had a better connection to the train to Wissembough): As the Karlsruhe light rail lacks cars due to several new lines over the past years, they now borrowed cars from Saarbrücken. The first car just arrived to Bretten last week.

By 13:30, I was back in Karlsruhe, from where I took a local train towards Wissembourg. Part 2 >
