Expedition

Checking the daily hashpoint at lunch, I saw that it was literally in the middle of a road on rural Sauvie Island, only ten miles or so north of downtown Portland. I immediately called Mrs.5000 to let her know that I would be home late from work. Four days before Christmas, this was received without question or objection.

A note of drama was added to the expedition by the illumination of my Check Engine light shortly after departing work. Since the route happened to pass right by the dealership where I have the truck serviced, I stopped and asked a mechanic if that meant I should park the truck immediately or if I could "run a few errands" on the way home. "Is it blinking?" he asked. "Nope," I said. "Well, bring it in eventually," he said.

With this blessing, I continued the journey. As I hit the open highway north of town, the Check Engine light went back off, so no doubt that problem is all solved now.

The hashpoint was in the southbound lane of Gillihan Road about 300 meters south of its intersection with Reeder Road, so I drove clockwise around the big loop of the island roads. Turning south onto Gillihan, I accelerated aggressively, so as to cross the hashpoint at the maximum speed possible!

Michael5000 earned the Speed racer achievement
by passing through the (45, -122) geohash on 2009-12-21 at a high rate of acceleration.

Happily, this did not reignite the Check Engine light.
