Back on my bike in München, just when I turned into my street, I found that my bike became very hard to steer because the bearings for the fork's motion in the head tube were totally worn out. Turns out that new bearings won't do because the part leading to the bar is completely stuck in the fork. In case I can get a replacement fork, this was the last adventure with the old fork. In case I can't get a replacement fork, this was the last adventure with this bike. Let's hope the latter won't come true...

Y'all, I might be interested in checking out this Sunday's location in München's West, almost revisiting 2009-04-24 48 11 and 2009-04-03 48 11. S-Bahn or RB from München (or RB from Augsburg and beyond) to Mammendorf, then walk. Not sure about the time yet, no other plans for the day (Sundays are awesome!). Narrative

Zb left the house at 5 am by bike for München's main station, went by train to Mammendorf, arrived at the geohash at 7:09 just before sunrise, stayed for a bit and then went trainspotting during a long walk via Mammendorf and Haspelmoor to Althegnenberg, from where he took the train back to München, arriving home at 12:15 pm. It was beautiful.

Photos

Early Trains to Mammendorf.

  • 5:30 am, München Hbf.
    The play on words that comes to mind when pronouncing this train's name in English really is appropriate because of the very narrow layout of the seats.

  • 6:21 am, Mering.
    Changing onto another Class 440 a.k.a. Fugger-Express.


Before we get to the coordinates, here's what might be a nice twist to pictures of things revisited. To have the following pictures count in the revisited category, we would have to use not a geocentric system of coords, but a train-centric system. This would completely mess with the idea of geohashing, but I'll explain anyway:

  • This is the French TGV. It departs München daily at 6:20 am to Paris. It was already at the platform before my train left at 5:37 am.

  • This is the very same train again, a bit more than an hour later, this time passing through Mammendorf at approx. 160 km/h.

  • The standard definition says the train has moved on KBS (route) 980 along geocentric coordinates, from München to Mammendorf, on its way to Paris.

  • But if we free our minds from the constraints of this common definition, we could argue that the Earth has moved below the train -- or rather: Is moving along the train at the moment these pictures were taken. Whoot: These are train-centric Revisited shots! Cool, innit?

Do not fear. I won't really tag the pictures with the Revisited category.


At the Coordinates

  • XKCD letters?
    Check. Standby for sunrise.

Revisiting 2009-04-03 48 11 (cf. Revisited).

  • Geohash on 2009-04-03. The spot is where the shadows would meet, if they were longer.

  • Same Time, same place. Spring has hit the auto color enhancement button.

  • No shadows this time, because the sun will take some more hours till I would have it in my back.


Back to Mammendorf, ...

Luckily, a bakery was open at 8:20, so I could get some delicious croissants and rolls for my 2nd breakfast. For the record, it was below freezing.


The day was still young, so I decided to do some more walking towards and along the railtracks. I went to Haspelmoor and then to Althegnenberg, where I got on the train again back to München. Many of the following pictures score in more than one of my favourite categories. Yay.

  • Still in Mammendorf. I wonder if the scale is set to daylight saving time. It was something like 8:40 when I took this picture.

  • Rail4Chem engine with graffiti, probably a class 185.

  • ICE (class 401).

  • Fugger-Express (class 440).

  • 'nother ICE (class 401).

  • IC (class 101).

  • 'nother 440.

  • Freight train with a class 151.

  • Freight train with a class 185 (?).

  • Bayerische Regiobahn, 3 x LINT 41 (a.k.a class 648). Rare to see them here.

  • This one's kind of rare, too. Class 120 and class 101 sandwiching an IC train.

  • Reduced speed (70 km/h) ahead. I'm commuting here every day. I hope the construction work that's the reason for this will be finished soon.

  • Time to look at some tracks...

  • I did not see any tracks left by kids with transmogrifiers.
