Plans

The point is only about about 5 km west of Heidelberg, so it should be easy to walk there. For most of the way, I'll just have to follow a street that I've already used during other expeditions (here, and here). I won't miss that chance to add another walk geohash to my collection. --ilpadre 11:33, 18 March 2011 (EDT)

Sounds good. I'll be there as well. How about a meet-up? Can you be there around 13:00? Fivetonsofflax 19:02, 18 March 2011 (EDT)

Hey guys, we (Mampfred and LadyBB) happen to have an appointment in Hirschberg at 2pm. The hash is about 20 minutes out but we'd like to have a bit of buffer so we could try to be there around 12:30 and mess up the Meetup Graph a bit, any chance you guys could make it that early (and miss a proper lunch, sorry)? We don't nkow yet how long we'll be in Hirschberg, so meeting afterwards isn't really an option. - Mampfred 04:34, 19 March 2011 (EDT)

Update, I sent ilpadre my mobile number in case we want to plan offline, Fivetonsofflax has the email function disabled, shout if you want it too :) We're going for the 50,8 now to get a nice consecutive*3 tomorrow - Mampfred 04:44, 19 March 2011 (EDT)
12:30 sounds good, I would've been there in that general timeframe anyway. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you! --ilpadre 05:01, 19 March 2011 (EDT)
12:30 is fine for me as well. I didn't even know about the e-mail option. Just activated it :) --Fivetonsofflax 12:00, 19 March 2011 (EDT)
12:30 it is, see you tomorrow. - Mampfred 15:11, 19 March 2011 (EDT)

Expedition

Mampfred & LadyBB

We arrived about half an hour too early and had a walk around the field to see where the closest point from the edge towards the hash would be. After walking around for about 20 minutes (hoping that the rest of the hashers would turn up early as well ;) we decided to just wait for a good opportunity with no other people around and enter the field.

A couple of minutes passed and we were down to one last jogger coming up the path. Right, as as he's past us we'll so ... wait a minute ... hey, he's slowing down ... and waiving at us ... turns out it was ilpadre.

A perfectly sunny Sunday, a hashpoint less than 5 km from where I live, and enough time in my hands for a walk expedition. And then, after I already decided to go there, the prospect of meeting fellow geohashers. When I reached the field, I immediately recognized Mampfred and LadyBB, and we decided it was safe to walk into the field without damaging anything. After a short chat, two hobbits arrived.

fivetonsofflax & Euterkuh

A dangerous quest, indeed, but it had to be done by hobbits with bare feet! For the onion ring had to be destroyed for the sake of the whole Odenwald. Euterkuh started at his place after just arriving from visiting his parents over the weekend. He crafted the ring, took off his shoes and -- because we had an appointment with some more brave adventurers -- jogged about 4km to fivetonsofflaxs place on his bare feet.

Arriving there he cursed a lot, for his feet were in great pain, but we had to go on immedeately. Whining now and then, we proceeded and met some elder people cycling. They asked us "Without shoes? Well, it is sunday!". After some time of pain and torture we met the most comfortable of all possible bare foot roads - it was heavenly. This must be where feet walk on when they die! But the hardest part lay just before us - a bridge with a lot of grit on the small way pedestrians were supposed to walk. It hurt so much, we had to rest afterwards and eat some delicious food, lovingly baked by Yorma, one of the elder snack masters.

The rest of our long journey was rather easy. We arrived at the point of our destiny after ten minutes and saw the other heroes lingering about and waiting for us. Only a few metres before we arrived at the exact coordinates, we were so exhausted and hungry we had to eat some Kanelbullar (a traditional hobbit food). Observed and motivated by the tall people around us, we took the final ten metres and we destroyed the nasty-smelling onion ring by leaving it to rot on a fossil piece of horse dung. We were satisfied - and a bit hungry again.

Yeah and some of the tall people wanted to squeeze themselves into a phone booth with us afterwards.
