Expedition

The hashpoint was only a couple of km from the Ladybird garden centre. Neil was shopping for some replacement plants after they died of water logging. This time last year, everything was scorched by drought. Now we have the other extreme. The short walk in rare sunshine from the roadside parking place was across open access land. To get to the pine wood, some tall bracken and nettles had to be negotiated. This growth was over six feet tall so the technique was to bend down and worm through the stems leaving the thick foliage above head height. Neil got a few inconsequential nettle stings. The growth is lush this year. There will be fat tree rings. After the bracken, the access was easier, just weaving through the young trees avoiding the lower branches. Neil's droid could not lock onto the GPS satellites or find a 3G network. The foliage was too wet and thick to get any useful reception. His Garmin hand-held dropped to zero after some back tracking and side stepping.
