Plans

I had already planned on going on an errand expedition this afternoon:

  • Tony's Ace Hardware in Hazel Park, to get screws short enough to mount a tablet mount to my desk without piercing all the way through the desk panel.
  • Detroit Tuned in Clawson, to get my car's computer recoded to defeat the bulb check. (I recently replaced the turn signal and taillight bulbs with LEDs, and I was getting annoyed with my car yelling at me about the bulbs supposedly having failed.)
  • Kroger in Hazel Park, to get some groceries.

OLQM is about four miles from Detroit Tuned, so I planned on visiting it after getting my car taken care of.

Expedition

I left home about 16:15 and made my first stop at Tony's Ace Hardware, where I bought the screws (#8 x ¾" countersink head) uneventfully. I left there about 16:30 and headed up to Detroit Tuned. Crooks Road was slightly backed up because it's down to one lane each way, but I still arrived at Detroit Tuned a few minutes early.

I dropped off my keys at Detroit Tuned and hung out in their waiting room doing waiting room things -- admiring the various scale models and posters of Minis they had on display, answering a few work Slack messages, people-watching as another customer came in to pick up their car, etc. My car was ready around 17:40, so I input the hashpoint into Apple Maps and set off.

I hit some more traffic along the way (the left turn from 14 Mile to Greenfield gets pretty backed up) but still arrived at the hashpoint at 17:53.

Leaving the hashpoint, I realized that I also wanted to buy a three-ring binder to keep my car's maintenance receipts in, so I changed my groceries plan from Kroger in Hazel Park to Meijer in Royal Oak. I wasn't thinking straight and missed the turn onto Coolidge Highway, so I approached Meijer the back way on Delemere the way the SMART bus route 760 does. I did my grocery shopping at Meijer and drove home uneventfully.

As I sit here logging my expedition about six hours after the fact, I realize that I could have popped into the Mobil gas station around 500m north of the hashpoint to acquire a Squishy and score five GeoSquishy points. Getting a Tron achievement was always out of the question because Detroit Tuned is down a dead end street, so I didn't even bother trying.

Tracklog

I didn't record my tracks, but here's a Google Maps reconstruction of my route with the actual starting and ending points (my house) somewhat obfuscated.
