Making a plan

When were you planning to do this in your car? May I join you? My current plan is to bus as close as possible, and then do some mild amounts of trespassing on farmers' lands, but driving by it in a car may be simpler. Elbie 17:19, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Ack, I thought this was 49 -123 -- disregard.

Okay, this works out great.

  • If the bike fits in the geohash mobile with yours, then I can meet you in Richmond, somewhere on No.5 Road and I don't need to worry about catching the shuttle.
  • If there aren't room for that many bikes then you can unload Elbie and the other bikes at the Town and Country, leave her to guard them there, come back for me at No.5 and Rice Mills Road, then leave my bike at Town and Country, we all go to the Surrey hash, then come back to swap bikes. I ride to the ferry, we reconvene at the ferry terminal, take bikes across, and so on.
  • But they'll all fit in the van, won't they? Where should I meet you? -Robyn 17:50, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

I was planning on bringing my bike along for the purposes of getting home after this hash. That makes three bikes and three people to fit in a van -- think we can do it? I'll be bringing my tools with me, so I can take off my front wheel, no problem. Elbie 17:55, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Both my wheels are quick-release, but I have fenders. Do the seats fold down or come out? It would be a piee of cake to have you and pi in the front seats, me in the back and bikes with front wheels removed in the middle, with the middle seat removed. And there's the roof. I even have a bike rack designed for a car hatchback, but possibly usable on the back of the van. Are you coming to the island, too? If not, can your bike be left at thepiguy's place? -Robyn 18:26, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
I'm not planning on coming to the island, and since I'll need it on the way back, I don't think leaving it at thepiguy's place will work. As for fitting the bikes in the van, I think I remember him saying that the middle seats can come out. So that could work. Also, I'll have a trisocket on me, so your fenders could conceivably be removed and then later put back on. Elbie 19:02, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

So are you driving the van home after we do the Surrey hash? Correct this, please:

*Pi picks up Elbie and her bike at UBC

  • Pi and Elbie drive to 41st and Knight (or 70th and Granville or ?) and pick up Robyn and her bike
  • Pi, Elbie and Robyn drive through tunnel to Surrey hash
  • Pi, Elbie and Robyn drive to Tsawwassen ferry terminal
  • Pi and Robyn and their bikes get out and go on the ferry
  • Elbie drives to Pi's place, leaves van
  • Elbie takes out her bike and bikes home

or is it:

  • Pi picks up Elbie and her bike at UBC
  • Pi and Elbie drive to 41st and Knight (or 70th and Granville or ?) and pick up Robyn and her bike
  • Pi, Elbie and Robyn drive through tunnel to Surrey hash then park at Delta Town and Country
  • Pi, Robyn and Elbie drive back through tunnel, drop off Elbie and her bike
  • Pi and Robyn drive to the ferry
  • Elbie bikes home
  • Pi and Robyn park van in day parking, take bikes on ferry

See updated plan below'.'

I do not have a driver's license, so it will have to be the latter option (or a variety thereof). Elbie 19:22, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Yay, a plan!

Okay, then lets refine it to ...

  • Pi picks up Elbie and her bike at UBC
  • Pi and Elbie drive to 41st and Knight (easiest for me, and I don't think it's any tougher for Pi than the other options). There's a gas station on the southwest corner -- so you can turn right into the gas station, load me and then turn right onto Knight.
  • Pi, Elbie and Robyn drive through tunnel to Surrey hash
  • Pi takes King George Highway exit northbound, heads west on highway 10
  • Pi drops off Robyn and her bike at Ladner Trunk Road (Highway 10) and Highway 17
  • Robyn rides towards ferry
  • Pi takes Elbie as far back towards home as she is comfortable riding
  • Elbie bikes home
  • Pi drives to ferry, picking up Robyn on the way if required
  • Pi and Robyn park van in Tsawwassen day parking, take bikes on ferry

If the three bikes in van thing doesn't work, Robyn can either take the shuttle as originally planned or he take his and Elbie's bikes through the tunnel and then meet Robyn at the west side of the tunnel and shuttle her bike through. -Robyn 19:38, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

This works for me. Being entirely clueless about Richmond bike routes, would it be fine to drop me off at the beginning of SW Marine Drive in Vancouver? It's a pretty straightforward ride home from there for me. Elbie 20:17, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
The rest is up to Pi. I will check this space this evening to see where I am supposed to be when tomorrow morning. If there is nothing, I will revert to the original plan, hoping to see you at the ferry. -Robyn 20:47, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
