Visitor for Christmas 2013

  • I just arrived today and will be around until January 2nd... let's go for a Chicagoland meetup! I'm staying in Evanston (which is actually in 42 -87) so points in either 41 or 42, -87 or -88 are potentially good... I will have access to a car which also makes it easier. -- OtherJack (talk) 18:17, 18 December 2013 (EST)
Nice! I can't count on you to visit today's point at SouthHill Mall then - I know there is no way *I* am going to brave the crowds for that :) --Thomcat (talk) 19:03, 18 December 2013 (EST)
Also, just realized the Christmas Eve point would have been really interesting, inside a mini-mall in Logan Square near where the Blue Line L goes underground. But I was far away in 42,-83 that day. Am back now though... -- OtherJack (talk) 15:02, 26 December 2013 (EST)

2013-12-14 Meet

  • Today's hashpoint is just off the Lakefront Trail in Uptown, within walking (or snowshoeing) distance of home. I will be at the point at 4pm. Would edit the planning page for today's date, but the Wiki isn't loading. nesbiteg (talk) 13:54, 14 December 2013 (EST)

2012-11-17 Meet

  • Saturday (tomorrow's) point is on a residential street corner in Summit, west of Midway Airport. I'm in town for the next week or so, and planning to be there at 4pm. See the page (2012-11-17 41 -87) for planning/details... -- OtherJack 17:11, 16 November 2012 (EST)

Graticule Discussion

  • Why not just run the algorithm for the four useful boxes and choose the point closest to the city center? It seems like it would have roughly the same effect, but wouldn't require special-casing the algorithm. 67.176.137.171 00:56, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
  • I would rather use the shifted graticule. Has their been a ruling? Shifting may cause confusion, but it's better than visiting Gary,IN. --207.181.238.3 05:05, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
  • Something to consider about shifting graticules around is that people visiting may not go to the wiki page to find out your strange algorithm. I just look up the coordinates on the irc.peeron.com site and figure out how to get there. So if you had a different way and I only checked that site, I would miss you, and then I would be sad. • I wish there were a way to incorporate a shifted graticule into the irc.peeron.com site. That way no one would miss out. I, for one, wouldn't know how to manually implement (that is, find points from within) a new algorithm or a shifted graticule. But if we were to establish automatic point generation, shouldn't visitor protocol just be to check the wiki first? Typewriter 20:19, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

2008-05-31 Meet

  • I've got a small group (car full) of people who are planning to do the meet this week. Which graticule should we be using? Has there been a ruling on the shifted graticule/multi-graticule thing?
  • I have a couple folks who would also like to do the 2008-05-31 meetup, but not if it's 1h45 drive each way! The shifted graticule or the multi-graticule would be great, but what is the process for getting those approved?
  • I'm going to be in Chicago this upcoming weekend. I'd like to make it to a meetup if possible. Are you guys using the Gylbert Algorithm? - Histumness 13:38, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

2010-01-02 Meet

I'm trying to round people up for this Saturday. Y'all watching this page? Typewriter 20:10, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

Visitor for Christmas 2010

Hey all. I will be in the graticule (down in NW Indiana), visiting my parents over Christmas. I have the potential of being able to go geohashing on Friday the 24, or Sunday through Tuesday the 26-28th. I hope to be able to get to at least one hashpoint, but it all depends on location, and whether I have time to make it there. Luckily most farmer's don't care so much about people walking through their fields this time of year, so it should be possible to make it to a rural one. --aperfectring 16:59, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately I'll be leaving for those days, heading back to Ohio to see some fam. Enjoy your trip! --Typewriter 11:48, 21 December 2010 (CST)

Yes - the Portland folks are busy hashing "other people's" graticules!  :-) Jiml 20:50, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
