This is further that I prefer to travel but the north Norfolk coast is rather wonderful, even at midnight and especially close to the full moon.

This was not my wisest expedition. Wading out to sea at midnight with an air temperature of zero Celsius is not the brightest move. Luckily it was not far into the surf and I was only knee deep. I rushed out and straight back as the pain set in and my feet, ankles and shins began to seize up. Back on the beach, full function quickly returned. If I'd waited half an hour, the tide might have receded enough to keep my feet dry but that would have been less interesting.
I honour the hardiness of "real" winter bathers!
