The "Air Geohash" achievement can be claimed when a Geohasher reaches the correct location for that day (and supplies proof -- a picture of you in an airplane isn't enough) while in an airborne vehicle. Jumping in the air does not count.

Commercial passenger flights

It is theoretically possible, although very unlikely, to pass through a geohash while a passenger on a commercial flight.

Please note, there is widespread disagreement about the validity of the "10 arc second rule". Please see the Talk page for details.

- If you believe in the "10 arc second rule" (heavily contested), you need to get within approximately a few hundred metres. (This was once calculated at 310m but varies depending on altitude and latitude).
- Napkin aproximath suggests there's a 0.5% chance of meeting this goal crossing one graticule. On a mid length flight you might cross 50 graticules. That gives up to 25% chance of success. Frequent flyers will certainly succeed rather easily.
- Don't try to persuade the crew to alter course in your favour - that would be hijacking!
- Try to contain your squeeks of excitement as the distance falls followed by the satisfied "Yes" if it drops below 310 metres. Geohashing is hard enough to explain as it is! --Sourcerer (talk) 11:51, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

Acceptable proof

In addition to the standard proof listed on the Achievements page, for aircraft in flight, a photograph which shows all of the following will also be acceptable:

Your stupidly grinning face.
Something displaying the date (typically your GPS)
A Geosync device showing you to be within
10-arc-seconds or 0.00278 degrees or 310 metres E/W and within
10-arc-seconds or 0.00278 degrees or 310 metres N/S of the correct location. (Please note there is widespread disagreement about the validity of this definition of success. Please see the Talk page for details.
