-that's an error when they don't : it would be better to have a bot simply add "Coordinates not reached" to any expedition that has a "Not reached - Reason" category. Some of them will probably be mine. :-( - Robyn

"MostActiveGraticules" alternative view (like on the wiki) that shows running statistics for the most important graticules instead of varying "top 15" for each month
The description of "World map of successful expeditions" says "The color gradient used is nonlinear, so differences between graticules with few visits are easier to see", but that's not true. Atlanta has 97 successes now, there are 3 unused color shades until Seattle's 52 and every graticule with 1 to 12 successes has the same color. Perhaps fixed colors starting at e.g. 5, 10, 15, 20 (or 3, 6, 10, 15 for even better low-number resolution) could be implemented.

Note that the colors for which numbers are given in the scale are not the only ones used. There are different colors for graticules below 12 successes. But yeah, the fact that we have two graticules in a different order of magnitude than all the rest has distorted the color gradient a bit and made low-success-count graticules harder to distinguish. I think I'll improve that situation after I get back from my vacation. --dawidi 18:00, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

I finally got around to updating the color mapping - it's now a thermography-style black-blue-green-yellow-red-white gradient, again somewhat nonlinearily distorted to increase detail in the less hashed-in graticules. --dawidi 18:29, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Hey don't you think it's a bit discriminatory to us poor southern hemispherians to always have our graticules right at the bottom of the most active/successful graticule list? Couldn't we alternate the north/south ordering, or even randomise the ordering for equal graticules? --Felix Dance 00:52, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Feature requests

A rank order for who has the most consecutive expeditions. Sourcerer has started working on this - early days though.
A rank order for the greatest number in a multihash.

Yeah. You'd have to research names for the graticules and add them to All Graticules in order to make the continent appear normally, and I think that's not worth the effort if nobody ever plans to go hashing there. User Stats

This is pie in the sky, but look at the stats that geocaching compiles for users! It would be cool to have some fraction of this kind of information for geohashers. Where would you start? You'd need a limited "log find" type interface, I suppose.

The problem with that is that the wiki doesn't have a reliable way to autodetect the participants of an expedition or the expeditions of a user, since people don't always link to all their expeditions on their user page, and sometimes expedition pages have links to users that didn't participate. The wiki is great as a flexible documentation system, but not that great for gathering statistics (unlike a specialized web application like GC.com), because of the variations between user and expedition page formats. So yeah, users would have to be trained to maintain an expedition list in a standardized format for such statistics to be made. --dawidi 18:06, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

I'm going to shoot down one potential argument against what dawidi said. "But the expedition summary generator (AperfectBot) seems to do it." That is quite true. However, it often leaves people off, or adds extras to the list. There are many expeditions, especially older ones, where a user list falls flat on its face. It does a "best effort", and I am constantly making it better, but it still screws up more than it succeeds. The code is rather complex, and while I have no problem in donating it to this very worthy cause, it is also quite slow at extracting user lists, because it has to look at every single expedition page. At this point there are about 1700 expeditions with coordinates reached, nearly 900 of those this year. I suspect this request is for more than just geohashes reached, so the number grows greatly from there.--aperfectring 19:20, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

It seems to have stopped updating at all around July 28th, and to have stopped associating wiki users with expeditions sometime between June 15th and that date. I believe relet was the author. I haven't seen him in IRC in a while, and he hasn't had any visible activity on the wiki since mid-July, so unfortunately, it may not get fixed for quite a while, if ever :( --Eldin (talk) 04:56, 7 September 2013 (EDT)

Small error on geohashing.win

Hello. Geohashing.win is awesome. If it had zoom out it would be more awesome but I just adjust the URL. At any rate, I would like 2023-01-27 31 34 to show up.
