Plans

We planned to take the new expedition vehicle Bright Blue Gravitas out for a drive tomorrow.

Expedition

Ms.5000's book group was cancelled, and then I saw an extremely promising hashpoint (see "Achievements") that I hadn't noticed before, and before we knew it we were crossing into Washington yet again for more arbitrary travel.

The first arbitrary travel stop was the Ahles Point Cabin pub, an outlier of the McMenamins Harbor Lodge complex in Kalama, Washington. We had a nice lunch with a view of river traffic, and also completed the Kalama page of our McMenamins passports (see below), which means we get some kind of prize next time we drop by.

Then we headed into the hills, which rise pretty abruptly from the Columbia in its last few hundred miles. It wasn't a "speed racer achievement" -- we actually stopped atop the hashpoint to take pictures and celebrate -- but we didn't feel like we needed to stop the engine and get out, either. The road didn't have much traffic, but it was narrow and hemmed in by homes and fences.

From there, a very roundabout drive in the Country got us back to Oregon!

Achievements

My long hoped for Reverse Regional Achievement! After failing to get to a point on 2023-05-12 45 -122 in the little sliver of Cowlitz County on the northern edge of the Portland graticule, it was lucky to have another shot so soon.

The Counties in the Portland graticule, with my first successful expedition to each, are:
