I dub thee [[User_talk:Robyn/OldTalk#Ninja Hunting|Ninja Slayer]]! Keep up the good work, and don't worry - I periodically go back and dig through the Expeditions categories to make sure my [[Most active graticules]] list is up to date. --[[User:Thomcat|Thomcat]] 06:28, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Hello Benjw. I created a bare-bones expedition page for your [[2015-02-10 52 0]] expedition because it would be fun to get Norwich and Cambridge into first and second place for monthly activity for February - [[Most_active_graticules | Graticule Statistics]]. --[[User:Sourcerer|Sourcerer]] ([[User talk:Sourcerer|talk]]) 17:38, 15 February 2015 (EST)
I hope you don't mind me pouncing on the weird category name you suggested. As I edited the photos I saw that you hadn't used it, so it might have just been a mispaste, and you knew what you were doing all along. Fixed now, in any event. -[[User:Robyn|Robyn]] 20:46, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

:No, I don't mind at all -- I didn't suggest the category name, just tidied up the link to a category page which was already suggested.  I think it's probably better using the meetup category as you've done, thoughI guess I was just looking for things to fiddle around with -- I've got a university assignment due on Tuesday which I haven't even started the reading for yet, and the wiki is good for procrastination! -- [[User:Benjw|Benjw]] 20:52, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

::Hello Ben. I have made a few more skeleton reports - as above. With the 10000th expedition coming up, it would be good to have a more accurate count. I think Cambridge is all correct now.

::Giggle: I didn't mind where it went. If you felt strongly about it to move it, ''I'' wasn't going to move it back. I'm guesing you didn't realize I was creating the page, and were just trying to keep things neat.

::::::You laugh! In an alternate universe that would be the name of my own graticule. The town signs are bilingual English/Halkomelem (using that orthography) as I drive north on the Squamish highway. I'll have to get to a geohash up there sometime and send you a picture. We'll also have to start calling it "Squa-seven-mesh".-[[User:Robyn|Robyn]] 19:37, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi Ben, got your message! At the moment it's a bit up in the air whether I'll be able to go to tomorrow's hash or not; I should know later tonight. If I am, it'll be for 4pm.

:::::::I'd like to see it.  It's fun to imagine how things ''might have been'' if one small thing was changed.  Somewhere I have a novel that's set in an alternative universe where the Roman empire lasted until the present day. (I bought it but never quite got around to reading it.)  That sort of thing. As for the language itself, it just looks like an unpronouceable mass of letters to me.  Polish -- which is becoming an increasingly common migrant language in this country -- seems similar.  Someone I know has a Polish boyfriend whose name is Przemysław, pronounced Zhemek.  I suppose it makes sense if you're used to it.  -- [[User:Benjw|Benjw]] 20:08, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

On a related note, I see that [[User:Sourcerer|Sourcerer]] is quite active in the next graticule north, and that you've met him at least once... do you know if he's likely to be interested in straying down this far south? :Well, you've probably seen by now that Sourcerer is keen for meetups but already has other plans for tomorrow.  He does often do multi-graticule trips so I'm sure if you invite him in the future he will certainly consider a visit.  Anyway, let me know when you've decided whether you'll attend -- I'm not worried either way but as it's a long way (for both of us) I won't go if you don't, so please be reasonably certain you'll go if you say you will.  :-)  Thanks. Looking forward to it, anyway (assuming it happens!).  I might well go to 52,0 as well afterwards. — <span style="text-shadow:grey 0.2em 0.2em 0.1em; class=texhtml">[[User:Benjw|Benjw]]</span>&nbsp; {[[User talk:Benjw|talk]]} 13:47, 21 August 2015 (EDT)

::Oh thanks. We need some kind of system now that there are enough expeditions that the early birds can fill up a gallery. I suppose some rules like one per person as well as one per graticule, and you have to wait ''n'' days between posting images to the gallery would work for now. Hi Benjw. You just asked me to categorize my images. I'll do so, but I don't want all the pictures to be marked as meetup-pictures (i.e. there is nobody on the picture or it's not even near the hash). What Category do you recommend for photos I made while on track?

:Eek, I saw this just after you wrote it, was too rushed to reply at the time, and then forgotSorry! Ummm... it ''is'' a lot of hassle to rename a whole load of graticules (and there are a LOT of them), but on the other hand, most of them aren't active and I guess ReletBot would find it easier if the categories matched the page name. But then again, the new page names would mostly be longer than the old ones, and maybe a bit unwieldy. Of course, we don't actually ''have'' to categorise them into territories -- I was only listing it as a Thing To Do because of what the [[:Category:Australia]] page said...  On balance, though, I think it's best to keep them as "Town, Australia", but categorise them into the territories.  Does that sound sensible?  -- [[User:Benjw|Benjw]] 12:40, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

You got me all excited that you were actually going to help me with my German. Technically wasn't that correcting my html? -[[User:Robyn|Robyn]] 15:06, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

::Yes, [[User:DanQ|DanQ]] got us this new skin. [[Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-rendering|The old ones still are available in the preferences]]. However, I actually like this one better since it works better on mobile. --[[User:Fippe|Fippe]] ([[User talk:Fippe|talk]]) 17:46, 31 December 2021 (UTC)

:I suppose it was.  But I didn't think you needed any help with the German.  You seem to be getting along quite all right without it. A train is "ein Zug", by the way.  We have portable traffic lights for roadworks, and highway telephones with arrows pointing to them in this country, too. Must be a European thing.  Here are some helpful phrases to get people laughing at you:  "Wie komme ich am besten nach zum Bahnhof, bitte?" (we were made to learn this exact phrase at school), "Ich hei&szlig;e Robyn; wie hei&szlig;en Sie?", and "Ich bin nicht eine verrückte Frau; ich komme vom Internet."  Glad you're enjoying yourself!  — <span style="text-shadow:grey 0.2em 0.2em 0.1em; class=texhtml">[[User:Benjw|Benjw]]</span>&nbsp; <nowiki>[</nowiki>[[User talk:Benjw|talk]]<nowiki>]</nowiki> 15:38, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Hello Benjw. I created a bare-bones expedition page for your 2015-02-10 52 0 expedition because it would be fun to get Norwich and Cambridge into first and second place for monthly activity for February - Graticule Statistics. --Sourcerer (talk) 17:38, 15 February 2015 (EST)

Hi Neil. Sorry, I'll get around to writing it up properly some time this week! There are a few older ones I still need to write up, too. Thanks for the reminder! — Benjw  {talk} 00:47, 16 February 2015 (EST)
Hello Ben. I have made a few more skeleton reports - as above. With the 10000th expedition coming up, it would be good to have a more accurate count. I think Cambridge is all correct now.

Please vote

Could you please update your vote on Category_talk:Not reached - Did not attempt? I rearranged the page a bit. If we get a clear vote we could go ahead on the changes. - Danatar (talk) 14:10, 29 June 2015 (EDT)

Thanks for the prompt! Done. — Benjw  {talk} 00:32, 30 June 2015 (EDT)

Hi Ben, got your message! At the moment it's a bit up in the air whether I'll be able to go to tomorrow's hash or not; I should know later tonight. If I am, it'll be for 4pm.

On a related note, I see that Sourcerer is quite active in the next graticule north, and that you've met him at least once... do you know if he's likely to be interested in straying down this far south? Huinesoron (talk) 12:42, 21 August 2015 (EDT)

Well, you've probably seen by now that Sourcerer is keen for meetups but already has other plans for tomorrow. — Benjw  {talk} 13:47, 21 August 2015 (EDT)
At this point, I can say that barring unexpected events, I will be at the hash at (or slightly after, if I get lost) 4pm tomorrow. See you there! Huinesoron (talk) 17:24, 21 August 2015 (EDT)
Great! I shall say the same. I'll pm you with my mobile number in case it's needed; otherwise, see you there! — Benjw  {talk} 17:34, 21 August 2015 (EDT)
Received! Will be leaving in less than an hour. Huinesoron (talk) 09:28, 22 August 2015 (EDT)

And Norwich and Cambridge are neck and neck. Which one will be the most active graticule for August. Or will Mannheim pip them at the post. </horse race commentary mode> --Sourcerer (talk) 20:42, 21 August 2015 (EDT)

I suspect it will be Norwich. This weekend is a very unusually active one for me; you're usually more keen to travel. That said, Cambridge has been the most active graticule before now...  :-) — Benjw  {talk} 00:50, 22 August 2015 (EDT)
Both as it happens. Cambridge gets the ribbon for "coordinates reached" and Norwich gets one for "expeditions". Of course there's the proviso about late expedition reports but I think it's in the bag. And it's the third month this year with our graticules in the top two. --Sourcerer (talk) 10:14, 31 August 2015 (EDT)
Splendid! Mostly down to you, of course, so well done for your sterling efforts once again this month.  :-) We'll see what happens in September, but it's a bad start from me, I'm afraid -- we're away this week. — Benjw  {talk} 11:05, 31 August 2015 (EDT)
You and Tongs made the difference though. Without your expeditions you'd not even be placed in the Most active graticules top three.

Hi there. It's forty miles away from Cambridge, but I wanted to let you know that we're going to be at Sunday's hashpoint. Tongs (talk) 14:33, 28 August 2015 (EDT)

Thank you -- and I would have loved to have joined you, but I'm afraid I am not going to be able to.  :-( I hope we can find a mutually agreeable hashpoint sometime soon! Good luck with the expedition. — Benjw  {talk} 04:45, 30 August 2015 (EDT)
Never mind! It is forecast to absolutely tip it down anyway! Some other time. Tongs (talk) 04:58, 30 August 2015 (EDT)
PS. Do you have any plans for your big hash #100? Tongs (talk) 16:09, 30 August 2015 (EDT)
Nope. Just whenever it happens. (It's unlikely to be this week as we're on holiday for our wedding anniversary.) If my first 99 expeditions are anything to go by, it's likely to be in a field, reasonably near Cambridge, and on a weekday afternoon.  :-) Well done for making it to today's hash, by the way! — Benjw  {talk} 16:12, 30 August 2015 (EDT)
Thanks, and happy anniversary. We had a lot of fun, but it was quite a way to go. The hall was really nice. Photos soon! Tongs (talk) 16:17, 30 August 2015 (EDT)

Geohashing Day Invitation

All geohashers are cordially invited to the 10th anniversary 2018 geohashing day meetup in the Cambridge UK graticule.

Cyprus

Thanks for mending my Cyprus expedition. My cold and dehydration had really got to me. I'm OK now (next day) but still not 100% --Sourcerer (talk) 07:42, 9 January 2018 (UTC)

Glad you're feeling a bit better today. I hope you fully recover quickly, and have enough holiday left to enjoy after you do! A huge well done for getting as far as you did yesterday, though. I should be going for one near Newmarket later today (assuming a delivery I'm waiting in for turns up), but it's nowhere near as interesting. Enjoy your holiday and may the Algorithm be good to you! — Benjw  {talk} 08:05, 9 January 2018 (UTC)
I've retired and am here for 28 days. I already had the cold travelling out (apologies to the other 180 Ryanair passengers and crew - Karma?) and I'd far rather suffer in the warm. Thanks for your sympathies but others may me more deserving - slight gloating feeling! --Sourcerer (talk) 09:35, 9 January 2018 (UTC)
Oh, well then. Sympathy rescinded.  :-) I'll look forward to at least one of the Cypriot graticules taking the most active award for January! — Benjw  {talk} 10:10, 9 January 2018 (UTC)
There are five zones, all mostly sea and three involve crossing from Greek Cyprus to Turkish - quite possible but it's another layer of difficulty. I'll be lucky to get another. Did you see 2018-01-03 39 27? There's an app needed for this game. I had to do it the hard way. My goal is the cheer half way through a flight and gain a "drag along" of about 180 people. It could make flying great interesting again. Does GPS work on mobiles in Aircraft Mode? --Sourcerer (talk) 15:44, 9 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi Benjw, please be aware that because of the issue described at Talk:Dow_Jones_Industrial_Average#2019-03-18 some sources (at least https://geohashing.info) have been reporting wrong locations for tomorrow. Since you created both reports (for hashes that would be very close with the wrong dow) I wouldn't be surprised if you are one of the unlucky ones who got the wrong locations. As I am the owner of geohashing.info I hereby offer my apologies for the inconvenience. --Eupeodes (talk) 20:46, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

Ah! Thank you for letting me know, it's very good of you to have checked which points I was using. Yes, I was using geohashing.info and having checked anthill and peeron, which both give me a different point, I think I agree with you that I was using the wrong point. Sadly the correct one is a lot further away, but you have saved me a trip tomorrow so thank you for that. No apology necessary -- it was proved long ago that technology often just does what it likes.  :-) — Benjw  {talk} 22:23, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

Yes, DanQ got us this new skin. The old ones still are available in the preferences. However, I actually like this one better since it works better on mobile. --Fippe (talk) 17:46, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
