It turns out that this suggestion was made under another name ("Necromancy") in 2020 by [[User:Mckaysalisbury|McKay]].

This argument was entered in opposition.

:It would create an incentive to ''not'' go Geohashing if the graticule in question is under the threshold. There may be a tempting Geohash, but one would not visit it because the graticule has been inactive for nine years and it would ruin next year's Necromancy Geohash.

This idea is certainly logical, but I don't think it's terribly realistic.  I don't think that an achievement like this would be sought-after enough to spark this kind of gamesmanship.  If it did become that popular, then that would mean that it was in fact serving the purpose of encouraging people to head out to the less frequently visited graticules.  A small problem would only manifest itself, in other words, if it was coming along with a large benefit.

This achievement was proposed in the past, but has been rejected, because creating an achievement for this would only encourage inactivity until that time frame has passed. Please read the discussion page for more details.

As per the page proposed achievements: If an achievement has strong opposition and the reasons for opposition are not resolved through discussion, then the proposed achievements category is replaced with the rejected achievements category, the reason explained succinctly on the page, and the page otherwise marked to make sure it isn't confused with an achievements page.

As the Great Game ages, it might be a fun incentive to exploration to have a formal reward for geohashing in a graticule that has been inactive for a long time.

I therefore propose the Reflowered Graticule achievement, earned by reaching a hashpoint ten years or more after the most recent successful expedition in that graticule. This is different from the Graticule Unlocked achievement, which of course goes to the first person EVER to reach the hashpoint in a graticule.

McKay earned the Reflowered Graticule achievement
by reaching the hashpoint ten years or more after the most recent successful expedition in the graticule, at the (40, -112) geohash on 2020-08-22.

If multiple expeditions reach the same qualifying hashpoint, they all qualify for the Reflowered Graticule achievement, regardless of who got there first.

If one or more people have claimed the Reflowered Graticule achievement, and it later comes to light that there actually HAD been an intervening successful expedition in that graticule, then that's pretty funny and they can deal with it as they see fit.

As with the Graticule Unlocked achievement, winning the Reflowered Graticule award is a good opportunity to update and improve the page for the reawakened graticule.
