The Manchester graticule is at latitude 53, longitude -2. It contains, in no particular order:

  • Manchester
  • Chester
  • Liverpool
  • Preston
  • Bolton
  • Blackburn
  • Stockport
  • Macclesfield
  • Wigan

as well as numerous other built up areas, including the greater parts of the Stoke-on-Trent and Wrexham areas. Water geohashes are rare, but the graticule does contain the estuaries of the Mersey and Ribble rivers, as well as a small part of Morecambe Bay. Anyone wishing to go exploring these particular bodies of waters is generally advised against it. They're not particular safe places to go boating.

  • The geohash for this day is inside what I suspect is a LYNX Express distribution centre, Leyland, near Preston (map).

Past Geohashes

  • Saturday 24: a farmer's field northwest of Crewe (map).
  • Sunday 25: a field north of Barnoldswick (map).
  • Monday 26: a field next to a forested area north east of Chorley (map). In all likelihood easy to reach from Chorley train station itself.
  • Tuesday 27: another field northwest of Crewe, very close to that on Saturday. (map).
  • Saturday 31: inside a small paddock near Alsagers Bank, Stoke-on-Trent (map).
  • Sunday 1 June: in the Mersey estuary, just off Garston Docks (map).
  • Monday 2: the fairway of one of the holes at the Mellor Townscliffe Golf Club, close to Stockport (map).
  • Tuesday 3: a field near Higher Walton, a few miles ESE of Preston
  • Monday 16: a field near the River Chor, a few miles West of Chorley (map).
  • Tuesday 17: a field approx 2km SSE from Adlington (map).
