Plans

It looks like it is in the food court - the approximate map from discord. Planning on a 4pm Saturday geohash; likely parking nearby and walking around the campus a bit beforehand.

  • 4pm should work great for me. Will arrive by bike or foot, then probably check out the cherry blossoms in the Quad afterwards. Coyotebush (talk) 17:36, 26 March 2022 (UTC)

Expedition

Coyotebush arrived by bike from the west, weaving across campus through significant crowds of pedestrians. Rain began to fall. After parking the bike under cover next to the HUB, coyotebush entered the building and took a staircase down to the food court. Coyotebush got a very close GPS reading and sat at the nearest table.

Zebburkeconte arrived by bus, entered the food court, and was spotted by coyotebush. They chatted about the cubicle geohash achievement and why really they were there, anyway.

Thomcat arrived by car and went inside briefly to complete the meetup. Car turned out to be the wrong choice - with everyone on campus, there was no way to drive in and NO parking available. I pretended I was a delivery driver for the time of the meetup.

The question was asked "why do we do this?". My answer was not as clear as possible, but it starts with geohashing being a spontaneous adventure generator. I have seen new and interesting things, been to places I've never been, all within my own little trapezoid of a home area. Speaking of meeting - Thomcat met his 50th geohasher face to face, with obligatory handshake.

Coyotebush and Zebburkeconte walked over to the famous cherry blossoms, watched the crowds for a bit (including a costumed figure that was definitely not the school mascot but maybe a Pokemon), then parted ways.

So why all the crowds and traffic? Students were away on spring break and the HUB would otherwise have been closed for that reason, but it turned out that Admitted Student Preview had brought thousands of prospective incoming students to campus for the day.

All tolled, Thomcat entered the campus shortly before 4pm and ended up leaving campus shortly before 5pm - on an ordinary day, this would be less than 10 minutes.
