Hamburg is the second largest city in Germany and it's inhabitants claim it is the greatest one. It is split between two graticules.

Graticules

Both graticules cover the independent city Hamburg as well as the "Länder" (they are like U.S. states) Schleswig-Holstein, Niedersachsen and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Hamburg and it's two graticules

West (latitude 53, longitude 9)

The graticule is split by the river Elbe. Except by boat or swimming you can only cross it via bidges or tunnels located in Hamburg. In the north is Schleswig-Holstein, south the river is Niedersachsen. In Niedersachsen there is the "Wildpark Lüneburger Heide", a nice national park.

East (latitude 53, longitude 10)

This graticule contains the eastern half of Hamburg, as well as the city "Lübeck", parts of Schleswig-Holstein and Niedersachsen and a small corner of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Local Geohashers

Hermann is bike powered, living in the west-end. Will try to reach every hash between the river Elbe and "Pinneberg".

Reached Geohashes

2008-05-26_53_9 was reached by Hermann. Probably the first reached hash in this graticule and possibly the first successful documented geohash in Germany. 2008-06-03_53_9 Hermann and Felix bicycled there.
