Spam users
Please put all spam usernames/IPs here. Please do not create their userpage with the spam tag if it doesn't already exist. And please only add them if they have multiple edits -- most spam accounts are single use and never get touched again. --joannac 19:38, 21 November 2011 (EST)

Embedded maps
I don't have IRC right now, but it seems the maps are broken again - eg. Berlin,_Germany does not show the Berlin graticule, and since it is >30W, it should always show some kind of geohash. The <30W templates also still show a blue square whenever the geohashes are not published yet. I know it's a code and a wiki thing, but maybe you can trigger whoever helped with the templates in the past. -- relet 08:21, 17 April 2012 (EDT) --
- For the record, that was apparently caused by the template "dow" returning an empty string for 2012|04|16, as seen on User:Crox/Test. It was solved when Zigdon fixed the value returned for that day. --Crox 14:20, 17 April 2012 (EDT)
More admins?
Could I gently suggest asking if any of the well-regarded, trusted users would mind taking on admin privileges -- we've got over 50 items in the deletion category; it'd be nice to get that cleared out... I'm willing to volunteer, and have considerable experience being an admin at WP some years ago, but I don't know if I'm well known enough around here yet. JesseW 00:00, 17 May 2012 (EDT)
Edit page clarification
< Hijackal> joannac, please add the info that "by submitting, you agree that everything you post is GDFL" to the editing form <&joannac> Uh <&joannac> What's GDFL? < Hijackal> I think that does not become sufficiently clear by looking at the page right noe < Hijackal> http://wiki.xkcd.com/geohashing/Geo_Hashing:Copyrights < Hijackal> Says some things. Which should be _absolutely_ made clear to _anyone_ clicking save ;)

Thanks Joanna, I don't know how I ended up uploading a duplicate. Anyway, I've cleaned up the remaining links to the duplicate. --Jevanyn 11:00, 29 August 2012 (EDT)
Problems registering
Hi! Sorry, I'm new here so I'm not sure this is the right way to do this kind of thing. Someone at the IRC said you were the one to contact :-) The problem: My brother is trying to sign up for geohashing but gets the error
Set $wgShowExceptionDetails = true; at the bottom of LocalSettings.php to show detailed debugging information.
when he requests the confirmation code. It seems it's some kind of internal error with the wiki?? Hope you can help! Thanks very much!! User:lizwiz 25 March 2012
Is it possible to change username?
I am currently changing my username across internet - is it possible to do it also here? Bulwersator (talk) 15:30, 21 July 2014 (EDT)
- Sure, let me know what you want it to change to, and I can do it. I'll be using the Renameuser extension; just check its effects are okay with you. --joannac (talk) 18:37, 21 July 2014 (EDT)
- I would like to change it to mkoniecz. Bulwersator (talk) 17:33, 22 July 2014 (EDT)
Delete Photos and Pages
Hello Joannac,
you seem to know how to delete an own uploades photo or may be a wrong created page. Could you please write a short easy-to-understand instruction for me or send me a link to an instruction?
Thanks very much!! --Q-Owl (talk) 06:27, 16 October 2014 (EDT)
- Mark it for deletion with {{delete}} and I'll eventually get to deleting it --joannac (talk) 06:59, 16 October 2014 (EDT)
- Marking pages in the first line of the edited text?
Hmmm, but where could I mark a Photo?
--Q-Owl (talk) 09:42, 16 October 2014 (EDT)- You can mark pages anywhere; first line of text is possibly easiest. You can edit photos; that's where the caption is stored. See Category:Tagged_for_deletion for examples. --joannac (talk) 17:01, 16 October 2014 (EDT)
- Thank you very much!!--Q-Owl (talk) 05:44, 17 October 2014 (EDT)

Names of Participants (if not users)
There exists a problem with participants' names,
if the names contain special characters or spaces and the participants are not registered users.
Examples:
a) http://wiki.xkcd.com/geohashing/2014-10-22_63_28 and http://wiki.xkcd.com/geohashing/2014-10-22:
"Pastori's daughter" becomes "Pastori's"
b) http://wiki.xkcd.com/geohashing/2014-10-05_48_7 and http://wiki.xkcd.com/geohashing/2014-10-05:
"Q-Owla" becomes "q"
May be, you know someone at xkcd who could fix this bug?
Names are shown in full length, if one uses [[User:Pastori's|Pastori's]] or [[User:Q-Owla|Q-Owla]]. But this looks strange (and red).
- Hey, I didn't see anything in the actual expedition pages (all the names show collrectly), but I saw it on the date pages e.g. 2014-10-22. Is that the same thing you saw? If so, I think it's an aperfectbot parsing problem (since that's the thing that generates those pages). --joannac (talk) 18:09, 22 October 2014 (EDT)
- Greetings, I am the friendly bot maintainer! I am the guy responsible for the robot that maintains the expedition list pages, and will happily answer your question. I have looked into the issue, and it is one I've run into a whole lot in the past. It is very easy to programmatically parse out a user name from a user link, but much less so from a normal list of users. Because of this, I had restricted non user-link participants to a single word. The '-' character was not considered to be a part of a word, which is why that name was truncated after the Q.
- So there's some good news here. After looking through the parser, I've figured out a way for the bot to handle multiple word participants. However, I still will be truncating after the '-' character. In the past (and maybe even still today) people would list themselves as a participant, and after that use a dash and write some comments. e.g.
- APR - Met up after lunch
- APR's friend - Came with APR
- I will continue looking for a way to address that, but for now, unfortunately, that is going to remain. If you have any further questions or issues, please feel free to contact me directly on my user talk page. --aperfectring (talk) 21:18, 22 October 2014 (EDT)
