:::: ''Eight'' months? Yay! That ought to be enough time for at least a couple of meetups. I envision a hash somewhere near, or maybe ''in'' the [http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&om=1&msa=0&msid=109125711072299182272.00043cd5ee4237df32d2f&ll=49.131408,10.909081&spn=0.080311,0.154495&t=h&z=13 Brombachsee] southwest of Nuremberg. I'd love to do some kind of a boat trip there. But I'd be ok with other interesting locations as well. Maybe not at the other end of the country though ;) --[[User:Dawidi|dawidi]] 15:07, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Revision as of 15:46, 27 August 2009

Spelling

Nürnberg, Germany or Nuremburg, Germany? One is listed on the All Graticules page, the other is the live data. Finally, there should be a redirect from the less preferable one. Please advise, and/or change. Thanks! --Thomcat 13:51, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for noticing :) Since München is already listed as Munich, I decided to use the English name, Nuremberg, for Nürnberg as well. Added the redirect from Nürnberg, Germany and corrected the All Graticules page. Also added some missing redirects from the "lat, lon" format pages. --Dawidi 14:05, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Bicycle Geohash

Congratulations on your Bicycle Geohash! I've moved you to the top of the table since you've outdone me. TomViza 00:06, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

ooh, nice... I didn't know these were supposed to be ordered & ranked by distance. Dawidi 12:22, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Regensburg

Hey there, fellow Regensburger. :) Sorry, haven't been around this site in recent time. Yes, I'd definitely be up for a Saturday meetup if the hashpoint is within city limits (or public transport limits...I've got no bike, unfortunately, so my options are few). Let's hope for good coordinates in the new few weeks! Snafoolery 23:56, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

yay :) Thanks, relet! --Dawidi 07:26, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Germany neu-migration

Very cool RC device, and quite maneuverable! Not sure if any of the pics came out well, but if so I'll upload and ping here. Funny to look back at the spelling query, which has since changed again. Nice meeting you! --Thomcat 20:57, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Dawidi I really enjoyed your reports of RC aircraft hashes. When I saw the picture of your last adventure I thought it was the V22 Osprey we see here in Crestview, Florida all the time. These battery powered aircraft are really interesting. I need to find out more about them. --Bos 22:14, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Great Weather!

I enjoyed reading your report about your expedition on 2009-04-03. I was in 2009-04-03 48 11 on the same day and it was just such a beautiful day!--Zb 18:24, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Indeed, that was an awesome day. I'm afraid if the weather continues to be that good, I will spend a lot of time on geohashing expeditions this year :) I also was excited to recognize the ultralight in your photo as Fresh Breeze's new two-seated XCitor trike... last time I checked, it was still awaiting its airworthiness test, or something like that. --dawidi 20:04, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
I just put another picture of the guy into the page Image talk:Zb 2009-04-03 10.jpg --Zb 20:53, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Icons

Good job on the LightCycle. Can you replace this with something that actually looks like a cherry? It's probably the ugliest icon on the wiki. -Robyn 01:55, 21 April 2009 (UTC) Virgin geohash.PNG

Heh... yep, made a new one. Doesn't look exactly xkcd-ish, but should do as an icon. --dawidi 19:52, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Can't remember if I ever thanked you for that. It makes me happier now every time I see it. Do you have any ideas for a Geohashing Day ribbon?

Bicycle geohashes page

It has been suggested (see Talk:Bicycle geohashes) that the name of that page is a bit misleading -- the name implies it is a list of geohashes which meet the requirements for the bicycle geohash achievement, but actually it's a list of all expeditions, whether the coordinates were reached or not, that involved a bicycle for all or just some of the journey. I have re-written the introduction to that page to make it clearer, but would appreciate knowing if you have an opinion about moving the page to something like "cycling geohashers" or similar. I'm consulting the people who cycle most! Thanks for your time. -- Benjw 21:00, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

German 101

Since you offered your services here, I was wondering what the best translation of "Don't worry, I'm from the internet!" would be? I'm assuming if I use "Sorgen Sie sich nicht, ich sind vom Internet!" I'll get slightly more strange looks than the proper translation would get me. Thanks for the help! Thepiguy 06:03, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

:D hmm, "Ich komme vom Internet" (as if it was a company that sent you) still seems the smoothest translation for the second part. "Ich komme aus dem Internet" (as if the net itself gave birth to you) would sound rather crazy. (and "ich sind" is "I are".) For the first part, "Keine Sorge", maybe even the H2G2-esque "Keine Panik" would probably be more natural than the full imperative form. That is, it would at least seem somewhat coherent, even if most people still won't get it. - Btw, did you post anywhere which part(s) of germany you will visit, and when? --dawidi 06:23, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
I would prefer "Keine Panik, ich bin aus dem Internet" at least in Rhineland Palatinate and Northrhine-Westphalia. It complies best with the local dialects. --Lavataucher 12:45, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
I think the way my schedule is going to work is like this: I will be anywhere at any time anyone tell me. I'm not sure what my average cycling speed is going to be (new bike + new terrain + new continent = ??? km/h) but I'm banking on 25km/h, which means any neighbouring graticule on weekends and almost anywhere if I take the train. I've got 8 months to work things out though! And once I get settled in I'm going to start spamming everyone's page so that I can meet them :D
And thanks! You guys rock! "Keine Panik, ich komme vom Internet!" Thepiguy 14:52, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
Eight months? Yay! That ought to be enough time for at least a couple of meetups. I envision a hash somewhere near, or maybe in the Brombachsee southwest of Nuremberg. I'd love to do some kind of a boat trip there. But I'd be ok with other interesting locations as well. Maybe not at the other end of the country though ;) --dawidi 15:07, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
