Met while hashing or just met?
 +
Hi! I'm unsure now. Do we only count meet-ups directly at a hashpoint or meet-ups between hashers in general? I've received mixed messages. Can we make it clear? I don't have a problem with either.
 +
I think it is very clear that I don't meet other hashers by pure luck, so it is made sure that the meetup is only because of the community. That's a point for allowing everyone.
 +
But I surely understand that it may be in the sense of geohashing to meet up at the hash. So that's a point for the other side.
 +
I also think it would be hard to update the records, Eupeodes for example didn't even know he is in the graph. Shall we even bother?
 +

::I'm not absolutely sure about that. As discussed here you don't necessarily have to reach the hashpoint. I think the Meet-up_achievement is to emphasize the social aspect of geohashing and if you meet another hasher on an expedition it shouldn't matter whether you reach the point or were stopped by a posted sign. But of course achievements should be linked to an expedition, so a "Hi RC, I'm also a geohasher, shouldn't we meet at a pub tomorrow" obviously won't qualify us for a meet-up (except the hashpoint is in that pub). Or we could go to the hash afterwards (or before). But hey, I've met RC already. DODO (talk) 13:08, 20 November 2015 (EST)

: Hi Mampfred, thanks for looking at the graph so closely.
 +
: Regarding the color, the saturation is shows how long it has been since a user has edited the wiki (as the simplest metric I could think of that I hop hase some correlation to how active they are and whether it might be possible to meet them). Special:Contributions/M shows that M, for example, has no edits, so the script gives the "M" node no saturation at all.

 • Adrian and Twilightcity met
 • Holly, DaleF and Jaem met each other
 • Kelsey met thepiguy and MylSh
 • Warren and Garyuuko are the same person
 • Kelsey and Galaxstart are also one and the same

Damn, I have to go meet some more geohashers.

Robyn's meetups added, will upload new version tomorrow (or more like today in my timezone) Also, the single nodes (users without meetups) will be taken out. The graph (the version on my computer) now covers 75 users and 100 meetups. Koepfel talk 23:39, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Met while hashing or just met?

Hi! I'm unsure now. Do we only count meet-ups directly at a hashpoint or meet-ups between hashers in general? I've received mixed messages. Can we make it clear? I don't have a problem with either. I think it is very clear that I don't meet other hashers by pure luck, so it is made sure that the meetup is only because of the community. That's a point for allowing everyone. But I surely understand that it may be in the sense of geohashing to meet up at the hash. So that's a point for the other side. I also think it would be hard to update the records, Eupeodes for example didn't even know he is in the graph. Shall we even bother? (One last thing: Hijackal has of course the last word here! Sorry for starting a discussion so short after you resurrected the Graph.) ---RecentlyChanged (talk)

User:Koepfel originally made the graph, and shortly after this page was created, there were clear instructions [1]. (At hash, but may be someone you've met before). Currently, there is only a slightly implicit definition: "meetup" links to Meet-up_achievement. There, it's slightly stricter. (At hash, but not someone you've met before - maybe even IRC planning disqualifies). In any case, I think the at a 'hash part is pretty clear. --Hijackal (talk) 12:13, 20 November 2015 (EST)
I'm not absolutely sure about that. You are right, while geohashing should be sufficient. --Hijackal (talk) 16:11, 20 November 2015 (EST)

Automatic

This would be the perfect thing for a small amount of scripting, which would automatically build this graph... --TheJosh 04:54, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

We could just input the information in the more-or-less human readable dot format. -- relet 08:23, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
Building the actual graph is not that hard, the hard part is extracting the data from various user and expedition pages. And I don't see how that could be done by a script. Koepfel talk 15:25, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, because if you just looked for user names in expeditions you would get me commemorating Meghan, mentioning relet, and being reminded of bears by Juventas. Also even if everyone mentioned on the page arrived, you have to read intelligently to tell if they were present simultaneously. You could however, ask participating geohashers to maintain a "Geohashers Met" section and be sure to include only names of people they have met, i.e. if they want to list "almost met" people, put them in another section. -Robyn 15:50, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Setting Out Together

How about the less interesting relationship: geohashers who set out with each other, even if they didn't meet any other people there. For example, my and YawnWithExcitement's trip to Ayr. Matty 06:00, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Oh, the "meetings" I listed were all people who had come together. -Robyn

Users, who started an expedition together are in the graph, e.g. Harlequin and his dad. You and YawnWithExcitement are in now. Koepfel talk 15:25, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
