This user earned the Leap geohash achievement 2012
by leaping to the hash point on leap day of the year 2012.

Award yourself this achievement for geohashing on a leap day, or reaching the geohash on a leap second. This is a chance you will only get every four years, and then they'll cheat you for some!

Bonus points for leaping all the way, meeting a leap of leopards, or doing other leap related activities.

Double bonus points if this is your initial expedition and leap day becomes your Hashiversary.

Upcoming dates

While the dates of leap days are well known and quite predictable (unless some pope decides to cancel a few of them - but that happened only once in the past 2000 years anyway), leap seconds are only announced a few months before. See the wikipedia article for more information.

If there is a leap second upcoming, please add it here.

Next leap second is at ????-??-?? 23:59:60 UTC

There was a leap second at the end of December 31, 2016 at 23:59:60 UTC.

There was a leap second at the end of June 30, 2015 at 23:59:60 UTC.

Please keep in mind that to earn the achievement by geohashing on a leap second, you need to be at the coordinates at the exact time of the leap second. This is not midnight unless you geohash at a place that runs on UTC, so better check your timezone first.

Since UTC has leap seconds it's important to use this clock. In 2017 GPS time was 18 seconds fast relative to UTC. Using GPS time, you'd be at the wrong coordinates if you live somewhere using Greenwich time.

See Category:Leap geohash achievement for a complete list of those using the ribbon.
