This is not talk about the 2008 Expeditions page, but an archive all the talk about expeditions from 2008, just in case some future geohasher wants to see how we get things done in this graticule.

Just off the Westminster Highway in Richmond. Sunday meetup, yay! 4pm, see you there. Onemanbucket 09:14, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
I'm busy during the day, but I'm stopping by early in the morning. I'll being along some chalk, but I don't think that's going to work. Check the nearest telephone pole, maybe I'll pin something up. Thepiguy 03:50, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

See you Saturday in a cul-de-sac in Richmond. -Robyn
2008-11-01
Well, the choices for Satuday are climbing a mountain in Garabaldi Park or border jumping to Bellingham and heading into the back roads near Baker... Sunday looks better for the Surrey grat but I can't make a transit connection. - Wmcduff 15:20, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
I propose an official Saturday alternate. -23:39, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
2008-10-11
Near the airport! On Catalina Crescent next to Airport Rd...I think I might be able to actually make that one. Anyone flying into Vancouver this Saturday? ;) Sparks 18:12, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
I am so there! For real this time. No backing out, I promise! Thepiguy 18:21, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
Cry! The first ever perfect Saturday in my graticule, and it's at the airport, yet I'm in Fort Nelson. Have a wonderful time everyone and take lots of pictures. Thepiguy, you're going to like Holly, she's awesome (and vice versa). I will think of you all fondly. -Robyn 23:52, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
The first thing I thought of when I saw the location, was "Oh man! Robyn isn't here!" Although, I'm sure my fellow geohashers won't let me down. Right guys? Thepiguy 09:00, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- I knew as soon as I saw updates to Vancouver, you, HollyB, and Straylight all at once that something good was going on in Vancouver. -Robyn 13:28, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- I don't have a GPS - what time are you going to be there, meester 3.14? I work until 2, and drewloid is arriving here around 7 or 8pm with a car, so if I can't get a bus I'll drive with him in the evening. Can you leave a marker as usual? Sparks 17:39, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- I was planning for 4, but it's less than 20 minutes from my house, so I can be there when ever. I'll make a second trip if you can't make it out in the afternoon. Thepiguy 18:20, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- The boy won't be here until 10pm now, and I can't make it there and back before then, so it looks like we'll be doing a VERY LATE HASH. But he has a GPS with him, thankfully. I just want to GET THERE BEFORE MIDNIGHT, DAMNIT! JUST ONCE! Sparks 02:16, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
It takes me under 30 minutes to get there, how long will it take you? If you let me know when you're leaving, I'll meet you out there! Thepiguy 02:32, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
2008-09 26, 27, 28
Predictably, nothing good in our graticule. -Robyn 17:06, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
2008-09-25
Nice and easy in Vancouver. Come on out! I'll be there about 6 p.m. It's right on the #33 bus route, too. -Robyn 13:59, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
2008-09-21
Me and srs0 have access to an allegedly sea worthy inflatable raft and a pump. We're going to bike down to the beach and hope it holds air long enough to get out to the coordinates... and back. I've got the entire free, so if you'd like to come along, feel free to suggest a time that works for you.
I'll haven't even looked up the coords yet, as I'm teaching a class, but count me in. I'll bring my own raft, even. -Robyn 19:54, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
Hooray! I'll come up with some more solid details tomorrow. Is there any time that works better for you? Thepiguy 22:32, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
Nope, I'm free all day I was looking around for a second hash I could do as a multi, but it's kind of slim pickings. Wait, wait, Sunday's Port Alberni is less than 30 km from the Departure Bay Ferry terminal, and right on a road. Lets do the Kits one first thing so there's time to get the ferry! -Robyn 01:58, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
Oh my Gauss, it's perfect. I'm in. What ferry(s) do you think we should catch? I need to be back in Richmond by 19:00, but that gives us lots of time, especial if we do Vancouver early. What do we do with the boats? Thepiguy 04:19, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
I think we should catch the Horseshoe Bay ferry, not sure of the timing, but allow an hour and a half each way from the ferry to the geohash for me. I average about 20 km/h. For the boats, we need someone who lives or works nearby who can stash the boats for us. If srs0 isn't in for the Port Alberni trip, we can dump the boats on him, and then you can get yours at work and I can pick mine up on Saturday. I know someone who lives not too far away. I'll ask her on Saturday. Ideally we need someone less hardcore who will come by car and who can keep the boats. I'm thinking about it still. Sunrise is about 6:45 I think. Also it's going to rain. But we're tough.
P.S. I don't mind if you put the hammer down and ditch me at any point in order to make an earlier ferry. -Robyn 04:46, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
My planning notes here. -Robyn 05:17, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
I've moved to the planning page too. And I'd never leave a fellow geohasher behind! Thepiguy 05:39, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
Well, despite what I told thepiguy earlier today, I'm not busy tomorrow, but the day after (Sunday). However, I'm free all morning and the early afternoon. So I'll definitely show up to the one in Vancouver, but unfortunately I can't join you two for the Sechelt trip. Rats! It's so perfect too... :(
If you want it, I'll take the boats. That is, I'll take them assuming I can carry them all with me while biking. If not, I can always take the bus back to UBC and carry the boats with me, so regardless I should be able to take them. I'd prefer not to take the bus though, as if I have a bike, I'd rather use it!
Unfortunately I couldn't make it to tonight's geohash for the midnight hash with thepiguy. I was hoping my friend's birthday dinner would end earlier than it did so I could join him, but it didn't, and I wasn't going to leave on a birthday dinner. Oh well.
Can't wait for Sunday! The hash should be awesome! -Srs0 06:33, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Why must peeron taunt us like this?!? The market data is available by now! If you trust the coordinates on the front page, the Saturday meetup is located right in Richmond! We'll have to wait and see though... Thepiguy 15:30, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
DUPED! Coordinates are now terrible. Thepiguy 17:40, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
2008-09-19
Arrr me Vancouver hearties. I's willing to find a boat and take on a crew for today's geohash, if the lily-livered geohash be willing to stop squirming around and stand and fight. Her first location be fine for such a conquest but until peeron weighs anchor and joins the fight we no be knowing where tha treasure might lie. -Robyn 14:22, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
Yarr! Me schedule for today be fuller than a whales belly after dinning on a days catch. I wish ye luck on yer voyage, but unless you're leavin' after the sun goes down, I shant be joinin' you. Thepiguy 15:30, 19 September 2008 (UTC) (Oh man, I'd make a terrible pirate)
I's be wanting to be in dock ere the sun goes o'er the yardarm, but if them thar scurvy coordinates be not settling soon I may have to run them through with a cutlass to pin them where they stand. -Robyn 16:19, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
<pirate talk> Well, we've been duped by peeron again. But the surrey coordinates look good. Me and srs are going to try for a midnight geohash. I'll have to drive, I've never been out that way by bike before and doing for the first time in the dark wouldn't be safe. I'll see if I can throw together some pirate gear too. </pirate talk> Thepiguy 17:37, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

I got up with the intention of doing what had to be done to geohash today, and here's an opportunity to have an exciting expedition, but I'm feeling my inner chicken.
2008-09-13
Oh man, this graticule makes me sad sometimes. Do you want to meet on the side of a cliff accessible only by kayaking 40 km up Toba Inlet with your climbing gear, or jump over to Surrey and meet on a glacier? We're not the "pick a wussy alternate" kind of graticule but geez, the most acessible all weekend is probably the Surrey, a kilometre off Dewdney Trunk Road in an apparent clearcut. -Robyn 15:26, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Actually, it's foresty department trails. See 2008-09-14 49 -122 for details, Robyn. I think it's just a hilltop clearing! - Wmcduff 16:26, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
2008-09-11
Near E41st Ave and Nanaimo Street. Unfortunately I personally can't make it due to previous commitments, but it shouldn't be too hard for anyone who feels like going for it! Srs0 16:25, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
It's 2.5 km from my house! I'll be there around six tonight for the walk geohash, and possibly a picnic. -Robyn 17:47, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
Really? No way! Curse my 17:00-19:00 one-time class (which thepiguy also has)! Ah well, have a good walk and picnic! Srs0 19:44, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
I can go later! I'm not working tomorrow. Maybe I'll have a midnight picnic walk geohash. -Robyn 20:24, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
Shoot, I can't make it at all tonight. I have to bike straight home at 19:00. It would have worked out so well! *sigh* next time I guess...
Good to know you're still alive though! I was starting to get worried! Thepiguy 22:01, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
I cannot believe I missed this expedition! I'd been paying such close attention until the end of August 2008, and then stopped when I moved ... on precisely this date ... to a house just over one kilometre from this geohash... Osmie 17:32, 27 April 2011 (EDT)
2008-09-07
Near Granville and W49th Ave, this geohash should be nice and easy to grab! Unfortunately it's in someone's yard, but the road outside will be close enough. I'm planning on attending, and I hope to see others there! Srs0 14:07, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
It really is disturbingly easy to find out personal information on the Internet. I won't post my results here (because it would be both wrong and creepy), but in ten minutes of searching public databases, I was able to find out the address where this geohash is located; the e-mail address and phone number of someone who lives there (or who lived there recently enough for a Google hit); and the current state of their property taxes. Yikes.
I won't be there on Sunday, but I sure hope they appreciate winning the Couch Potato Geohash. Do you plan to knock on their front door with the award? Osmie 18:12, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Not sure if I can make it but it is quite convenient indeed, in Kerrisdale. There are apparently some good Taiwanese cafés around there. Queerasmoi 18:30, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
I might try to get there, but it's a bit far from Abbotsford... -Wmcduff 18:39, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, one one hand i'm working that afternoon. but on the other hand, its just so close. Are you guys going to be there at the official meetup time (4pm)? I probly wouldnt make it till 630-7. Straylight 19:22, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
I have somewhere to be for 17:00, so me and srs0 were going to go around 13:00. We're also going to make a trip to the local squishy store, only 1.4km! We'll try and leave an xkcd sign of some sort nearby. Thepiguy 19:37, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
I live right around the corner (relatively: King Ed and Dunbar) so I'll be there! It'll be early though because I'm leaving for Seattle that afternoon. woohoo! Sparks 23:05, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
What time are you going to be there? I have nothing in the morning, and it's only 15km from my house so I can make multiple trips! Thepiguy 02:39, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps once a sign has been left, each of us can add our signature and username and the time we got there :) 24.82.139.90 02:51, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
I won't be able to make the hash. The ValleyMax and TransLink systems don't meet in Aldergrove on Sundays. :( -Wmcduff 03:32, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Group 1 made it! We left an xkcd sign on the manhole cover to the west of the house, right by the big hedge. We would have singed it too, but... we both forgot a pen... Thepiguy 19:50, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Sweet! I'm hopefully hitting it up in a couple hours or so. Better late than never. Sparks 22:11, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
2008-08-18
I'm going to be at todays hash around... 9:30 or 10:00 tonight. If all goes as planned, I may drag along a few friends too. Thepiguy 17:35, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
2008-08-17
I'll make my way up to North Vancouver around 1pm. Coming? :) --Sparks 23:22, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
I'm busy in the afternoon. But I was planning to head over in the morning. I'll make sure to leave a good marker! Thepiguy
What time in the morning piguy? I was thinking about heading there myself in the morning, as i've got work in the aft/eve. Straylight 11:42, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
Wah, I wanna come, but I'm in freakin' Slave Lake. -Robyn 11:49, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
Wait! I can make it in the morning also, but was planning on sleeping in - I'll sacrifice some sleep for a hash with others! What time? Sparks 19:28, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
I added some details to my talk page. Hope to see you all in the morning! Thepiguy 06:56, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
2008-08-16
I'm going to see how close I can get to the Victoria hash. I don't imagine anyone would like to come too? Thepiguy 05:40, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
2008-08-09
Me and srs are going to try and be there. We both told some other friends that we were free on the weekend, but assuming we can weasel our way out of those plans with will definitely be there! I'll be brining nibbs! Thepiguy 21:02, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Things aren't looking good for today. Srs is out, and I won't know for sure until later. Thepiguy 17:10, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
2008-07-19
Me and srs0 are going to go to the Vancouver location in Nanaimo. Who's up for an adventure? We'll be taking the 12:55 ferry to Departure bay Point from Horseshoe Bay and the 17.45 ferry from Duke Point back to Tsawassen. Our method of transportation will be bicycle, leaving from UBC at approximately 9:30 in the morning. Thepiguy 18:30, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
2008-07-05
I intend to go for the Surrey one today, at a schoolyard in Delta. Robyn 07:10, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
2008-07-02
Surrey Geohash for today is very accessable, on the SFU Campus, so I'm going for it. If anyone wants to meet up there, let me know. Straylight 19:22, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
2008-06-23
I may be making a late attempt at today's hash, if only to test out my new reciever. The hash appears to be on, or very close to the sea to sky highway, just past furry creek. If anyone else is so inclined, let me know, i'll check before i head out.
Straylight 01:13, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
Oh good! I'm cheering for you. I looked at it on Google Maps and thought that it looked doable. I even imagined pulling over there and seeing the cars of other geohashers there, like we were a real happening graticule or something. What kind of GPS receiver did you get?
2008-06-18
I'm going to be returning to the hash at around 17:30 on my way home from work to get a picture (I did check the map until I got to work and discovered I'd already done it). If anyone else is planning on going let me know and we can arrange a more definitive time.
Thepiguy 17:44, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
I would be there, but I'm out of town, working and I don't have a way to get to the local one. Spend an extra second there for me, please. Robyn 23:01, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
2008-05-31
The location (for Surrey) is between two houses in Abbotsford. thepiguy and srs0 are planning on meeting there. There's a park nearby where we're planning on actually meeting (so that we don't have to spend long between the two houses). The park is a block or so to the West, and there appear to be parking spaces on Fern Street. The actual event page is here.
2008-05-27
Planning to be at the location between 18:00 and 18:30 (PST), depending on whether or not we have to stop on the way to pick up tape measures.
Update: Tape measures have been acquired! Should be there by 18:00.
--thepiguy and srs0 14:24, 27 May 2008 (PST)
2008-05-24 meetup
I'm foolish; I geohashed the wrong date to get the info which used to be here. Deleted as it's irrelevant.
