Talk:Serendipity Ribbon

From Geohashing
Revision as of 18:59, 17 October 2010 by imported>Benjw (here's a suggestion that is (hopefully) more useful than yet another ribbon for something that isn't really an achievement)

I know this is highly subjective; it's mostly to get a gallery of cool stuff reports. -- Rhonda 01:12, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

NW write it up like an achievement so there's more than just an idea to discuss. -Robyn 06:22, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

And here I thought geohashing itself is cool already. --Ekorren 06:48, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Oppose - This one will be hard to define if you want it to be an achievement - why not create a Category:Cool stuff found at the geohash site instead? -- relet 16:55, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

The main reason is that I agree with the discussion on the achievements page that I linked to - people will collect ribbons more than they will add categories, because ribbons are fun and categories are work. I'm fine with it not being an "achievement" ribbon, if a better name is suggested. -- 208.110.96.81 19:59, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
I see this as being something like Games We Play. However, that page seems to be somewhat neglected as well. It doesn't really seem like the best way to get a gallery of "cool stuff" to me. DNO, but also don't really care all that much for it. --aperfectring 20:08, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Needs Work - I like the idea, and I understand and support having a ribbon instead of a gallery. But it really isn't an achievement. Maybe just make it "Serendipity Ribbon"? Or something. And of course it needs a proper description text... --HiroProtagonist 21:35, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

"Serendipity Ribbon" makes sense. I'm fine with it not being an achievement per se. How would one go about changing the name of the proposed ribbon? -- Rhonda 01:18, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
I guess you can just move the page to "Serendipity Ribbon" and the page "Serendipity Achievement" can later be deleted... --HiroProtagonist 07:28, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - we already have the Hall of Amazingness. If you feel the need to make a more subjective/personal gallery, User:Juventas/My_Favourites is a good example (in which I'm featured myself, yay!) how it can be done. --The ru 12:26, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

NW. I think achievement ribbons should be kept as tokens showing particular achievements in the process of getting a geohash. But I do also see Rhonda's point that categorising reports and photos is dull and nobody likes to do it (well, some people do). So here's a suggestion, inspired by those little boxes some hashers have down the side of their user pages (see Template:User Canberra etc). What about setting up some small markers like those, that sit on the left-hand side of your expedition report and flag up a paragraph or section of the report that talks about something cool that happened at the hash, or on the way to the hash, or whatever. The icons can also automatically categorise the page, so that takes care of the boring stuff, the interesting section of the report is flagged up, and the ribbons are kept separate for achievements. Would people support the general idea? — Benjw  [talk] 18:59, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
