Meetups will typically be on Saturday afternoon, at a time to be determined to maximize turnout. The location will be the most interesting and/or accessible of the week; typically open to discussion.

Time to put the [[Speed Racer]] merit badge printer into overdrive. Wednesday's geohash is on Tremont Terrace, a few feet from Eastern Parkway and shouting distance from the [[wikipedia:Garden State Parkway]], a few blocks north from Exit 143.  Anybody with a photo of the Exit 143 or 144 sign for the parkway, northbound, and the speedometer, qualifies for the Speed Racer achievement.

On April 26, 2010, during the [http://www.nj1015.com/Casey-and-Rossi/5876222 Casey & Rossi call-in show], a discussion about geocaching prompted a Rutgers student(?) to call in and mention geohashing. They of course mocked us as geeks, but we'll show them! :-)

Our Graticule

The Newark graticule is at 40 N, -74 W. This graticule is among the most populous in the United States, with a population in the neighborhood of 7 million people. It includes almost the entire northern half of New Jersey, the most densely populated state (Census), as well as Staten Island, western sections of Brooklyn and lower Manhattan in New York, and a part of Pennsylvania northeast of Philadelphia. In addition, other than Raritan Bay, there are no large sections of water.

The New York Stock Exchange, where Geohashes are generated, is located in this graticule. On 2019-02-04, the hash location fell approximately six blocks from it.

Suggested Meetup Locations

Interesting reachable locations will be posted the same day as they come up. The 80%-90% rate of private property discourages me from updating more often.

Geohashers can also receive daily emails with automated Google address lookup through activegeohasher.com.

Meetups are usually worked out between geohashers when an accessible location comes up. Get to know your neighbors :-)

The geohash for the date in the original comic (May 26, 2005) is challenging but reachable, in Mill Brook, Morris County. If you make an attempt, tell us about it here!

Cities in this Graticule

New Jersey New York Pennsylvania
Newark Staten Island Torresdale, Philadelphia*
Jersey City Lower Manhattan New Hope
New Brunswick Parts of Brooklyn Levittown
Trenton   Langhorne

 * - The area, in the northern reaches of Philadelphia, is partially within Newark, NJ graticule.
