Hi

Hi, awesome idea. Keep it up. :D Lastfreename 06:48, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

I second that notion. Thanks, Randall! --Floyd4one 07:24, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Here, Randall, have a lowercase username. After all, the comic is lowercase. --Tim P 21:27, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

MediaWiki

I've just finished the source and notes on my half-implementation for the wiki. (the template-makers said the rest should be possible by templates only!)

Code and install instructions at MediaWiki Implementation.

Cleanup

Any chance you can either run through the contents of Category:Tagged for deletion, or delegate the job to someone? Duskwolf 04:04, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

DJIA

I have suggested setting DJIA=0 on Talk:Main Page#Using the Dow is a Bad Idea for a variety of reasons, and I hope you will endorse the idea (excluding the Dow, not the total colapse of the U.S. economy.) Also, what do you think about suggesting a goal time of day, if you haven't already? Something after school and work gets out but before summer dusk, like 6:30 p.m.? Request for art (achievement badges.)

I just added the Air Geohash achievement page. I tried to make my own badges -- to the layman, they appear surprisingly easy! -- and found that getting the right look was beyond my abilities. I, therefore, humbly request "official" achievement artwork for the Air Geohash achievement award[s]. (Ok, there are a bunch of (too many?) specializations. If we can get the basic award, I bet I can figure out how to modify it to do the sub-awards.)

Not to seem TOO greedy (your life IS filled with free time in which to fulfill pesky requests from strangers, right?! ;), but I noticed that the Achievements page lists several others that are also shy of badge artwork.

I have been using your artwork from xkcd comics, cutting, pasting and manipulating it in the fabulous image manipulation software known as Microsoft Paint 5.1, in order to create images for ribbon templates. I know there are artists whose heads explode if you mess with their work, so I thought I'd better give you a chance to tell me to stop. Fabulous custom icons would be great but people are creating achievements faster than I can make ribbon templates, so your keeping up with new artwork would be too much to ask. Also I looooove geohashing. Thank you for inventing it. -Robyn 03:45, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Security breach

You custom code for implementing maps allows custom JavaScript to be run on any page. See my user page for a proof of concept.

Spam

There's been some spam/vandalism at Main_Page/wgh/index.php. I'll clear the content, but only an admin can delete pages or block IP addresses, so I thought I'd let you know. -Matt 03:40, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

More spam - Implementations.

Spam every four minutes on the Implementations page. Any chance of banning the spamming address? --Psud 12:56, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

That has been done. Zigdon 14:52, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

MediaWiki Implementation

Randall, can we get some action on installing the MediaWiki Implementation? Or at least talking to the people in charge of it? --Tim P 15:58, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Graticule Naming Convention

Randall, et all,

If this is gonna grow, some discussion on a graticule naming convention needs to be done. Naming by a major city is fine within the U.S. and Canada, but in other countries this might cause an issue due to categorization.

If you look at Dothan, Alabama you will see an example. That graticule covers both Alabama and Georgia and is categorized as both states. No problem in the U.S., but what if it was the border between... say... Turkey/Greece or Israel/Jordan.

Naming by the graticule coord is very good and then using redirects as appropriate, but the coords are not so user friendly.

Ideas?? update.. See Categorization for some ideas I have here.

MarioKart

I love your portable TV / MarioKart idea. If you pull it off, you should get the Speed Racer achievement for it. -- Jevanyn 19:04, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of images?

Hi, i can't figure out how to completely remove the image: http://wiki.xkcd.com/geohashing/Image:IMG_0093.JPG Could you do that for me? Thanks! -- AgentSmith 22:22, 08 August 2008 (UTC)

Spam fighting..

Hi Randall,

the spam problem in this wiki keeps getting worse. Could you have (or delegate) a look at the mediawiki anti-spam features and see if there's something in it for us? I've made good experiences with the regex blacklist, and modifying the anti-spam error message; i.e. Blocking any edit containing "*viagra*", and not obviously telling that the edits did not succeed (the latter to avoid the typical arms race, or any failed edit detection algorithms. They kept modifying their attacks otherwise.). I've never seen my spammers again. Back then, I've specifically blacklisted some of the html code which the spammers used to hide their edits. In our case, it might help to block any edit containing more than five external links at a time, or something along these lines.

Thanks in advance for any help. -- Relet 13:47, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
