So... are we gonna do this? If so, when exactly? 16:00? Anyone else coming? (I'm still undecided... it's a 20€ trip after all.) --dawidi 09:17, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Sunday 27 Feb Geohash - NOT just a short walk south from Rohrbach, on RE 59096. Interested? What time? I'm in Munich for a conference until Monday. --Thomcat 02:25, 26 February 2011 (EST)

:Pinged most regional participants, up for nearly any geohash on Sunday. Have some work to do in the morning. Staying at the Hilton (Rosenheimer Platz) and I have a weekly Bahn pass, so let me know where you want to meet up on Sunday. Oh, planning to have breakfast at Wirtshaus in der Au, 10 am. Tschüß!  --Thomcat 05:24, 26 February 2011 (EST)
Thanks for taking up the image categorization cause. I hoped it would catch on. There are so many good photos that no one sees. I was thinking of a category for Sunrises and sunsets, too, but I'll just let them arise as people know what is important to them. Could you add the Meetup in and Meetup on categories to the old images that you edit for this?  It barely takes any time once you're already editing the file. And thank you for the other think too. Perfect discretion. :-) -Robyn 19:01, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

::Leaving München around noon seems fine for me, too. It would be nice to meet folks in Regensburg (dawidi is quite active and maybe we didn't scare Tanya enough on 2010-10-25 48 12 so maybe she's also up for adventures). If someone is going there, we could go to 2011-02-27. Let's see what they will be saying. Also, a hike around the South end of the Ammersee would probably be really nice. We could go to Dießen (trains from München Hbf leave every hour at :51, total trip to Dießen is one hour via Geltendorf) and take a nice long walk to Herrsching. I suggest we wait if other suggest any plans today and decide then. --Zb 05:42, 26 February 2011 (EST)
:I try my best not to put any geohashing-related words into this other place on the internets you are referring to. Search engines might make weird connections once I start talking about coordinates and achievements no matter where I am posting stuff... Kind of hard to remember, though. Life is a big blur of blurry topics :-)--Zb 19:05, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

::Ooh, i didn't see you were already discussing options here - i just emailed Thomcat after he suggested 48 12 on my user talk. My suggestion would be 48 13 (near Regen) - that point is in a forest, so much more likely to be accessible, and on the way we get a much nicer landscape, even including the ruins of an old castle from which we should have a good view. 47 11 looks like a really long walk along a main road... --dawidi 08:30, 26 February 2011 (EST)

:Image:2009-04-07 52 0 hashpoint.jpg -- You added the :Category:Architecture tag.  Sure, it's a building.  But "architecture"?  Isn't that category supposed to be for interesting buildings?  This is just a brick house. -- Benjw 05:00, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

:Hi Benjw, you are of course right, on the picture is just a residential building, definitely nothing you'd ever find in a traveller's guide. This, however, is exactly why I like geohashing so much. It takes you off the beaten path, the one that's already well-documented in tourists' guides and whatnot. Looking at the picture, I find so many things that I think are really interesting and maybe very typical of its location. For example, I see no curtains. Friends in Holland recently told me that they think curtains are very German and not found that often in other places... I even added the :Category:Architecture tag to pictures of quite ugly concrete bridges or shelters somewhere in the mountains. I think concrete bridges look fun when they appear next to a cathedral. Shelters in mountains look different in the Alps than they look in the North Cascades. Each of these details is fun, I think. I think all of the very regular -- sometimes even very boring -- and as well the sometimes very weird stuff is exactly what's so great about geohashing. It's even a cultural thing what something like a plain old phone box looks like: Do we want them to look pretty, or do we favour cost-cutting (über alles) and just put up ugly grey and magenta poles that leave the caller standing in the wind and rain, like the Deutsche Telekom decided to do some years ago? I definitely think that a category called Architecture should look different in the context of geohashing than it would in any other context.--Zb 17:56, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Minor edit
+
We could create a "Recent report" category, and have stuff in there for a while.  Of course, the other approach
Can I ask you to activate the "This is a minor edit" button if you only add a category to some file? This makes it possible to filter them off the Recent Changes page and still find the changes that might be worth a visit. --Ekorren 12:00, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
+
is go to "Current events", pick the "today" page, and then keep going back a day at a time. Doesn't cover recently updated, but old in time reports (like a couple that I need to update,) though. Jiml 21:16, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
:Oh, sorry for causing your inbox to get messed up. I'll try to remember checking the "minor edit" box. --Zb 15:51, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
+
:I think another category would make things just more complicated. Using the categories of all the dates isn't that hard... --Zb 18:10, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
::Not the inbox, but Recent Changes. Most active wiki users use that page to look for any new contributions. If you take a look into it just now, you'll see all your categorizations, which (given that the number of shown changes is limited) may even mask other contributions; and although the categorizations are usually a good idea, it's not the kind of contribution which makes you click on the page and read it. If you activate the "Minor edit", people can choose to not have them in the list. --Ekorren 15:56, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi,

Hi,

maybe you are interested, maybe not... this weekend on sunday and monday all of the various historic railcars in my area are out running again - and there is even a hashpoint nearby on monday! You could go to Ulm, take the Uerdinger railcar via Scheklingen and Münsingen to Kleinengstingen, continue to Hechingen-Schlatt, visit a <small><small>boring</small></small> forest near castle Hohenzollern and then continue with the MAN-railcar to Eyach.
+
in case you still might be interested in those... there is a hash on monday near Balingen, that should be possible to combine with some of the Schwäbische Alb sunday specials. A HzL MAN railcar is running on Eyach-Haigerloch-Hechingen, class 798 railcars on Schelklingen-Münsingen and Münsingen-Kleinengstingen. Also some more specials with modern trains. Baden-Württemberg-Ticket or Wochenendticket are valid on all of them.

:Hi Erkorren, thanks for telling me. Sounds like fun indeed, but I've already made plans to go on a hike with friends in the mountains S of München on Monday. Not even a geohash, I have to admit. At least we will not use cars but travel by trains. No vintage types, though... --Zb 10:35, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Timetable example: Ulm 9:00, "Ulmer Spatz" (Uerdinger in green-white) to Kleinengstingen, HzL RegioShuttle or bus to Gammertingen, Schlatt arr 13:44, dep 15:44, from Hechingen to Eyach with MAN-railcar, arrival 16:55. A DB 650.3 takes you from there back to the mainlines. All those lines may count as rather scenic.

I have no idea whether this would still be interesting for you. If so, this sunday is another chance: The hash is located between Bisingen and Engstlatt, and the MAN railcars are running on Hechingen-Eyach. I'm not exactly sure what will be running on Schelkingen-Münsingen, Münsingen-Kleinengstingen will probably be the usual "Ulmer Spatz" class 796 railcar. I'm considering to visit the Bisingen hash, whether combined with a MAN railcar trip or not. --Ekorren 17:00, 12 August 2011 (EDT)

Another hashpoint would be available near Ulm, but is of unclear accessibility.

See my talk page for discussion about the next few days. My e-mail is not working, and the Canadian provider isn't being helpful about it. -Robyn 16:14, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
:Hi Ekorren, thanks a lot for writing. Well, as nice as it sounds, maybe not this time, since I have stuff going on in Munich and the fun might turn into a rush, taking the fun out of the fun (uh, what?). I'll think about it again tomorrow, but you might want to better not make your plans around my (unlikely) visit to graticules West of Munich. Anyhow, thanks again! --Zb 10:34, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

::I'm not making plans around that unless you seriously consider it. As it is very likely that I'm not staying at home tomorrow but be on tour all day until the late evening, can I ask you to send me a mail or SMS if you decide you will go? I would send you my number by mail, but you haven't activated wiki mails.

::Anyway, there will only be three more chances to catch the MAN railcar this season: June 11th, and October 3rd and 4th --Ekorren 12:46, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

:::Thanks for the update. I sent you an e-mail (and enabled my e-mail address to receive e-mails from this wiki). --Zb 09:31, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi,

Hi ZB,
 +

 +
I would like to join you in this trip to Köfering. I  just learned about geohasing and I think its a funny way to meet people and to explore the area. As I am new to Regensburg and know almost nobody and nothing here, it is right for me :)
 +
So may I meet you, guys, at the Regensburg HBF?
 +

 +
Best,
 +
Tanya.

: We'd love others to join in. I have tried to offer some train connections in the planning section at 2010-10-25 48 12 and suggest to still wait for messages form the folks arriving from Tübingen, but my guess is that we arrive in Regensburg at 15:12 on RB 32373, go for a walk around town, head on to Köfering at 17:16 on RB 32529, check out the coords kind of quickly and hop on RB 32530 at 18:51 to get back to Regensburg. It's probably best to continue the discussion at Talk:2010-10-25 48 12, so the entire crew will know about everyone's plans. This meetup will be special because of the guests from Canada, so it should be a good start for you, geohashing-wise. Please excuse that we're a bit kleinkariert with the schedules, but we try to squeeze quite a lot of sightseeing and geohashing duties into the day to make the Canadians really, really tired, eh? Ekorren is out with them in Tübingen today, I think, so it might become somewhat late before they post or confirm their plans today. --zb 12:39, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Hey there, congrats on your new piece of equipment! I'm currently trying to update/complete some old stuff and, of course, visit some nice spots when there is time and chance. Maybe we'll see each other at one point or another. I'll be trying to post my plans on München, too, in case I have some. The T-Man 11:16, 3 February 2011 (EST)

:Yes, I really should start putting it to some good use, i.e. finally go geohashing again. I'm just really swamped with other stuff these days, but my intentions are nothing but the best as far as geohashing goes. I'll also try to use München for posting plans. And thanks for cleaning the München page. --Zb 14:26, 3 February 2011 (EST)
