Plans

Gah! Kids! Let's avoid them and go there late at night. :P -- relet 14:16, 25 August 2009 (UTC) (No, srsly - I have nothing planned right now)

Won't the gate be locked? :-) --davidc 15:50, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Actually I think this is a different kindergarten? Städtische Kindertagesstätte, Habersaathstr. 5 --davidc
Just checked it out. Vattenfall is digging up the area for miles around but we can get around the back to within 5m of the hash, or directly to the hash point if we step over a low tape barrier. --davidc 17:12, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
And now which of the kindergartens is it? :D -HiroProtagonist 17:35, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

I would really like to visit yet another nice inner-city hash, but I'm busy from 11.30 am to 4.30 pm, so if we go there either before or after, I'll happily join! :) -HiroProtagonist 17:34, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

david has an appointment in the morning, thus the evening is now preferred. Would 5 pm be okay with relet and anyone else who wants to join? Or rather something later? - HiroProtagonist 18:03, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
approving late meetup :) 5pm or maybe even 6pm. --pari 19:33, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
I shall propose a nearby tavern to meet from 5pm onward where I'll be on my fourth or fifth hobbit meal of the day, then we can wander over to the hash at 6pm. --davidc 19:45, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Tavern sounds great! Anybody knows a nice place around Hauptbahnhof? -HiroProtagonist 08:15, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Which tavern do you mean? Maybe I'll come around, too. --pari (not logged in) 13:28, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
o god my head, I think I'll see you at the hash --davidc 14:14, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

6pm is a good plan. :) -- relet 19:53, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Expedition

davidc

Written by my hand, this 25th day of Midsummer:
'Twas the eve of battle, and advance scouts issued forth from Mittgard to assess the field. Riding swift and sure through the dwindling twilight, no eye lay claim to their passage, nor did the sound of any hoofbeat reach hostile ear. A mystic scroll they bore, symbols of runic script indecipherable by mortalkind. As they rode it glowed eerily in runes of brillantine silver as they neared their objective. Dismounting now and tethering their horses, they silently crept up the bluff, until they reached the peak and the enemy's arrayed might lay spread below them. The night before the hash, davidc cycled over to check it was achievable.
The scouts surveying the scene, though the night cold and cheerless, let out a silent chuckle. The paltry display before them, this pitiful army: victory would assuredly be theirs. Marking the size and scale of the enemy's forces on their map, they returned to give their report as the sun made its final setting. A fence and Vattenfall digging was observed, but a route around the back via a Spielplatz attached to the kindergarten would provide for access to the hashpoint.
The victory party raged long into the night, before the battle even was won. Many an ale was quaffed and the serving wenches buttocks were laid bare in their reddening embarassament as rosy-fingered dawn laid siege to the heavens. davidc went out and got really drunk, let's hope he makes it tomorrow.
Written by my hand, this 26th day of Midsummer:
The ship of the sun had nearly completed its journey across the sky when our hero awoke with a start. Rubbing his head groggily, he moaned and reached over to the shrieking palantir. A voice from the depths of the seeing-stone informed him that the battle was already joined, and his presence demanded. He was not a lazy hobbit at heart, but these days the wizened old wizards rarely called upon him with quests of great magnitude, and the habit of early rising had slipped effortlessly from his brow. Yep, he slept all day and was only awoken by Hiro's call.
Donning full armour and boots, he mounted his loyal steed and galloped furiously toward the field of battle. Standing alongside many comrades, the day was quickly won and many deeds of valor demonstrated. Yet the accomplishments were hollow against the one planned and, shamed, he soon excused himself from the victory celebrations and returned to his bed to nurse his head and humiliation. So in the end he had to cycle there. Oops, fail!

Hiro

This time I could manage to drag along my future room-mate Jub to the hash, which was located so conveniently close to Hauptbahnhof. So after visiting some flats we made our way to Hauptbahnhof (another public transport geohash achievement of course) and after some nice minutes of sun-bathing davidc arrived - looking peculiarly un-hobbit-ish and so we also went to the hash directly instead of a tavern. Trurl and pari were there already and after some time of waiting and standing around looking suspicious, relet arrived. The path that david had scouted the day before was now barred by a fence (had they seen him?) but after some discussions about the legal definition of trespassing in Germany we decided that if a gate wasn't locked and nobody told us to leave we would be alright (we're not in the US where somebody will try to shoot us, right? ;) ) The way through the kindergarten proved a deadend, but walking through the building site we made our way to the hash. Nobody had brought a proper camera but stupid grin phots (pressed against the hash wall) and GPS shots were taken with mobiles instead.

Back on the street we found a phonebooth. Which happened not to be a booth. And not to only contain a phone but internet aswell. Well, we just stuffed it anyway! :D All of us exept relet then went to get some food near Friedrichstraße (and were asked "Are you here to play music today?" by the waitress, man must we look weird) and by and by everybady left. Nice geohash once more! :)

relet

..does not have much of a story today. He left the office at [looks at the tracklog] ten to meetup time, after having suffered from a Consecutive Meeting streak. We can assume he was late without looking at the tracklog again. Upon reaching the kindergarden, the others were assembled already.

With 1.6km, this has been the closest geohash so far. :]

Trurl

Met nice and hash-persistent people. Later, Berlin's allegedly best burger at Torstraße started at 8 Euros, which was not quite what we had in mind (Zoidberg-Syndrome?). So I went home and the others discussed where to find cheaper food. On the way home, I had a little freak accident with my bike (falling over for no reason, besides, perhaps, stupidity), but luckily no real damage occured. -- Trurl 05:48, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
