OMG. Please do report in as soon as you have news. You are worrying the whole channel. And the gentler souls are not even online yet. There are easier ways to achieve a Trail of Blood and Police Geohash, you know... and all the best to whoever was injured. -- relet 12:40, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
- Seconded. I'm sure I speak for all of #geohashing when I say that I hope you all are ok. --joannac 12:54, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
- I gather that it's not actually a matter of life and death (after all, it was after the geohash was reached) but it does sound a little bit worrying... All the best to poor srs0. We await further news. -- Benjw 15:49, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
- We're waiting and worrying too...love and prayers from 36 -78 -- NCBears 16:15, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
- Damn, that's nasty! I think that's the first serious Geohashing accident, isn't it? Anyway, I hope you'll recover quickly and thoroughly. Best wishes! Fivetonsofflax 22:36, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
- Thoughts and prayers, guys. How fast were you going when you hit that drain? -- UnwiseOwl 00:01, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
- Glad to hear that it wasn't as bad as it could have been, or looked in the pics. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and we hope you get better soon srs0! Who knew geohashing could be so rough... Crazycaveman 01:13, 4 June 2009 (UTC) (OUCH! that last post was before I saw the last graphic content pic. That looks pretty dang bad)
Hey everyone, thanks so much for the positive thoughts! I'm touched by your concern! Also, thanks for the awesome image, ilpadre!
I just got back from the hospital again, and everything's planned for my surgery on Monday. Here's hoping it goes well!
I'll write much more and put up more details in the expedition report, but I'm slow at typing right now, so it might take a bit.
Thanks again for your concern! -Srs0 12:16, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
Wow. You did well to do that to your wrist. Hope the surgery goes well :) Ephphatha 02:10, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- Oh my! I'm working too hard to geohash or to wiki much, but I had to come and see what the helicopter was all about. A helicopter! That's amazing. You'd have to have head trauma or be somewhere seriously inaccessible to get one of those in Canada. I have to admit that even after reading that shocking account I had to scroll to the bottom of the page to see, "but did they reach the coordinates?!" Congratulations on a successful expedition. Too bad about the rest. My sympathy and best wishes. May the pain and inconvenience subside as soon as possible. Thank you too to Danatar, thepiguy and the German medical system for looking after our geohasher. Is the bicycle going to be okay? -Robyn 22:22, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, I guess here it's law to have a helicopter every 50km, and they airlift doctors out to accidents if the location isn't near an urban center. It was pretty crazy to watch! Also, the bike is going to have to undergo surgery of its own. I'll bug thepiguy to put up a picture. For now, the front wheel is bent, the tube exploded, the external rubber tire split, and the rim bent and indented. There's minor damage to other parts of the bike, but at least the front wheel will have to be replaced. -Srs0 08:34, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- In the German medical system a helicopter is mainly used for: 1) hospital-to-hospital transfer if urgent and distance too far for an ambulance; 2) emergencies in remote areas (including snowed-in places), when an ambulance would not be fast enough; 3) bringing a doctor when all car-based emergency doctors are occupied. In our case it was number 3 - Danatar 09:50, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

- Exceptional dedication in the face of extreme adversity. Your Floridian buddies will ingest lots of pain killer in your honor and be wishing you the very best. We've had some bloody geohashes but it looks like those German velociraptors are on steroids. Advice: Don't let the doctor examine you in the nude - make her keep her cloths on. Please keep us informed of your progress. --Bos 07:44, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
German
Am I the only English speaker to whom German always looks as though it has been made up? My father new what he called "black market German" from his time in occupation forces after WWII, and as a kid I thought "Was ist das?" and "Hands gewashen!" were just a variation on pig Latin. I was quite astonished when I first met real Germans to discover that what I thought was a family nonsense code was a real means of communication used by an advanced nation.
