From Geohashing

Does having a "drag-along" void your eligability? Juventas 04:00, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

I suppose that's up to you. -Robyn 05:46, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
I think you should have to be the only person to geohash. The requirements state: If others reach the same hash point - with or without you, you fail. That would seem to rule you out if you have anyone else with you. --CJ 06:54, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

I love this idea! Oh and I love this too - Including the Australians, who are always geohashing. Upside-down, even. It's amazing. Hehehe...we sure do love our geohashing here down under! --CJ 23:23, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Candidates

Our first (potential) candidate - Brett at 2008-09-03 40 -85 on September 3 2008. Found by Thomcat 18:27, 5 September 2008 (UTC).

There are way more, if you look at August there are 11 days where there was only 1 report. Even my multihash fits the rules.--Arvid 19:11, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Will check again. On the day of your bicycle multihash there was another (2008-08-25 49 17) so it doesn't fit. --Thomcat 19:39, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
I think Arvid is right. I created day meetup categories for many days that didn't have them, and many had only one. I would be surprised if I have not earned this one. -Robyn 03:40, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
I think so as well.. I still haven't got any, though. :) -- Relet 10:50, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

I just did the manual check for the rest of september and all of october. This surfaced only two more no candidates (as where there was only one expedition it had several participants) and three empty pages in five weeks, so october was a pretty busy month. Now with winter in the northern hemisphere it may get easier again, though. --Ekorren 08:28, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

2008-12-11 49 20 - although it's debateable whether this became an expedition at all. Does this invalidate thepiguy's claim for 2008-12-11? --joannac 22:10, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

The quick check I've been doing for candidate dates is whether there is only one page in the category, so I missed that one - it isn't in the category. I should have remembered as this page was the one which triggered me naming the polish graticules! The page was written at 0:20 AM local time, so the non-user who made it most definitely wasn't at the spot before. I doubt this expedition took place at all. Until they come back and report on it, I'd assume they didn't go. --Ekorren 23:54, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
As well as checking for pages in the Category, you need to check the date page, e.g. 2008-05-26. -Robyn 18:55, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Deprecating Back from the grave

The Back from the grave retrohash, which was created as a honorable mention of this achievement, has never been taken up to now, and noone really seems to be interested in it. It's a retrohash, after all, and not any particular celebration either, so people seem just to shrug at it and forget about. Which is right, IMHO, as visiting the actual dates coordinates should always be preferred. I think we have all reason to call that one both unpopular and uninteresting.

I would suggest to deprecate it as long as noone took it. Of course the achievement itself should stay. --Ekorren 14:23, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Agreed --aperfectring 14:31, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Agreed - Danatar 15:09, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Agreed, although I'm tempted to do one just to be awkward. :-) -- Benjw 15:12, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Agreed, it doesn't benefit anyone/thing. -Robyn 18:56, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Define "mounted expeditions"

"If others mounted expeditions that failed" is somewhat open to interpretation in this context, given that people are encouraged to announce proposed expeditions ans these appear in the same manner as actual expeditions.

Does just a description of the location is posted as a proposal, does this invalidate a last man standing achievement.

How about a planned expedition that isn't followed through.

How about an 'expedition' that doesn't even get past the front door.

Alh 07:05, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Usually (at least for the consolation prizes) we always say that a significant effort has to be undergone on that expedition to reach the geohash. YMMV. Expedition plannings and not getting off the couch definitely are no expeditions. Driving two hours to someplace you want to go anyway and deciding you don't have time to visit the hash doesn't either. Driving to the spot, finding a no trespassing sign, and turning back is an expedition I guess, even if the effort isn't immense. ;) -- relet 08:41, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
The way I see it, you have to be the only person in the world would could say "I went geohashing today," and you have to make the point. -Robyn 15:47, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

No Retro expeditions?

I would assume you can't get Last man standing achievement if there is a Retro expedition on the same day, even if it is to a different day. Is my assumption correct? Jiml 21:03, 28 August 2011 (EDT)

I agree with your assumption. The retro guy did go geohashing. -Robyn 21:16, 28 August 2011 (EDT)

Then the challenge will be for the (formerly) Last man to know they weren't alone, since Retro's aren't tagged/indexed with the date they actually happened. And right now we better not, as the current date is used for various automated reports. I guess the easy way to do this will need to wait for the Wiki redesign into a database that Relet and APR were talking about. Jiml 03:31, 29 August 2011 (EDT)

Last Man Standing - Global Hash

The award does not work if you are the Last Man Standing for a Global Hash. Should it be a different achievement?--NWoodruff (talk) 14:34, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

cjk claimed the south geohash achievement for the Globalhash 2012-02-26 global, so there is precedent for claiming an achievement for Globalhashes where they are treated like Geohashes. I do not think there should be a new achievement. --Fippe (talk) 23:21, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
I don't see anywhere in the description of this achievement that specifies that it needs to be a standard geohash. Just coordinates successfully reached and an expedition reported; a globalhash meets those criteria. Mystrsyko (talk) 20:34, 5 September 2018 (UTC)
I agree, I have no problem that you claimed last geohasher standing! A lot of the ribbons have code that breaks when you try to make it a globalhash, it's not just this one. -- OtherJack (talk) 01:11, 8 September 2018 (UTC)
