The Portland metro area graticule is at 45 N, 122 W. It completely encloses the city of Portland and some surrounding areas. The graticule is almost entirely land, much of it open and undeveloped, making this one of the best areas for geohashing.

For other places called Portland, go here.

Cities in this Graticule

  • Portland, OR
  • Vancouver, WA

Planning and Coordination

7/19/2008 - Saturday

Looks like another field in Woodburn! Woo!

Jhon will be thar!

Probably Wil, too.

Participants

  • Alexp If anyone from Salem ever needs a lift to any of the Saturday Meet-ups let me know, I'll see what I can do.
  • Drache and NoTerminal will be hosting the first Saturday GeoHashing meetup for the Portland Graticule this week. Wherever it is, we'll be there with a chess board (or maybe two) and an arsenal of tech. If it's somewhere unreachable, we'll be as close as we can get. Look for a very dirty black VW Jetta or a silver Subaru Imprezza hatch-back with an over sized roof rack. There will be XKCD signs in the windows and our actual GPS coordinates on the dash if we're not at the specified ones. We'll also be on CB channel 36, family radio channel 13 with no codepage or codepage 0, and HAM radio frequency 146.52mhz, Callsign KC7KWX. Our CBs are car mounted so switch to ham or family when you're close to the location.
  • Wil See my user page or specific dates above for more information. Also on my user page is information about my Geohashing gallery. If you want to be on my email list of folks I notify about the Portland graticule's Saturday meetup locations and plans, then email me and I'll put you on it.
  • Timmothy Tee I plan on going monday, with three other hashers. One of the "Geo-Cyclists"
  • Admalledd live in Vancouver Washington, Another of the "Geo-Cyclists"
  • doiuf Located in Vancouver, WA. Have yet to make a meet-up.
  • Jessica may become an active member today, June 7, 2008.
  • James Just stumbled onto geohashing and can't wait for next saturday
  • Tim Ferrell I'm based in Salem and thinking about trying this out on 6/21. What all should I bring for a meetup? I answered my own question and added a link.
  • grishnav Based in Gresham. Just stumbled on geohashing after the slashdot article (saw the comic originally, but had no idea people were actually doing it). Myself and a friend hoping to go out 6/21 at 4pm, but doesn't look like anybody else is signed up yet. :-(
  • Kpeace Live in Portland. Participated in first geohash on 6/28; I don't have a car so I'm at the mercy of my car-owning friends for distant hashes, but I am an avid bikerider so anything within navigable city limits or in the vicinity of the Springwater Corridor trail I may visit unilaterally.
  • zem has a busy schedule and can't travel far without a car but will try whenever possible and/or feasible.
  • Maggie lives in Portland and has attended two thus far, and has enjoyed it a good deal.

Happy hunting!

Geohashing Historical Society Note: 2/17/2008 - Sunday

It was from the Olden Times, back before the xkcd geohash wiki had gone live... but the February 17 meeting in the graticule should probably be celebrated all the same.  :)
