CS student, open source aficionado and Debian volunteer (though I currently lack the time to do much for them), hopping through Berlin and occasionally other German graticules on 52N. I have been watching the geohashing fun since it started and finally decided to surface from lurkmode for the geohash on TLAPD; it was simply too good to be left out. As I don't own any GPS equipment, I usually join forces with relet, which means I bring the car (if we need one to reach the hash) and he brings the electronics. As I tend to forget to leave a "xkcd" note behind the windshield: if you see a green car with a H- license plate near a hash, that might be mine. As German geohashers might have already figured out, my origin graticule is Hannover, but I'm there so rarely that I wouldn't count myself as an active member.
Update: I've finally been able to get my hands on an old but sturdy Garmin GPS 60, so I'm no longer unarmed. Hashpoints, here I come...
Geohashes
- (2008/09/19 @ 52,13) Arrr, ye better not cross our path...
- (2008/09/20 @ 52,13) The journey to the fake beach
- (2008/09/29 @ 52,12) A TV show, a raptor massacre and plenty of ammunition (No, I'm not talking about Primeval!)
- (2008/10/12 @ 52,13) A Sunday's visit to the German and European Patent Offices (not reached, hash was in the office's backyard or on the roof terrace of the adjacent house)
- (2008/10/16 @ 52,13) Whew, that was a close one. A few days later and I wouldn't have lived there any more.
