The Newark graticule is at 40 N, -74 W. This may very well be the most populous graticule in the United States, easily in the neighborhood of 10 million people. It includes almost the entire northern half of New Jersey, the most densely populated state (Census), as well as Staten Island, western sections of Brooklyn and lower Manhattan in New York, and a part of Pennsylvania northeast of Philadelphia. In addition, other than Raritan Bay, there are no large sections of water.

You can click here for Today's Location.

A Facebook Group has been created for this graticule.

Local Geohashers

Attempted geohashes

Main page: Meetup in 40 -74
  • August 16, 2008
    • Field near Plainsboro. Zubenelgenubi followed the "visitors" signs on the Black Rock lot before veering down a semi-public-looking abandoned roadway until a security guard arrived. Does not qualify as a Police Geohash as this was just an amiable rent-a-cop. No proof.
    • In the Atlantic City graticule, Jevanyn got within photo distance of a water geohash location (pictures to follow).
  • Saturday, June 28, 2008
    • Brightwood Avenue, Westfield. Near Watchung Reservation. Jevanyn was there with two drag-alongs, and now has the pictures to prove it.
  • Friday, June 13, 2008
    • Forest Hill Rd, Staten Island, New York. There may have been a meetup at the Staten Island Mall, but no claim has been made yet. (start here)
  • Thursday, June 12, 2008
    • US 206, Hillsborough. Jevanyn has claimed a Cubicle Geohash honorable mention, but has not yet provided proof. (start here).
  • Sunday, June 1, 2008
    • A backyard in Denville. trntr claims he was there, but has not yet provided proof. (start here).

Daily Locations

Wooded strip between Rt 130 and Hightstown.

Field off Jacksonville Road, north of Mt. Holly. The Newburgh, NY hashpoint is also in New Jersey today.

Woods behind Fish Road, Jackson Township. Another one very near Six Flags - is this some kind of a message?

Field near the ball diamonds of Mercer County Park, West Windsor.

Inside Roberge Elementary School, River Vale. Less than a mile from the NE corner of the graticule. Cubicle geohash for any teachers setting up their classrooms.

Robbins Road, Neptune City.

Off Myrtle Ave in Monmouth Park, very close to the racetrack. There is something unusual passing east-west, about 20 feet from the geohash, probably an abandoned freight line.

A cleared and possibly planted field off Plainsboro Rd., Plainsboro.

Behind a house on Sydor Avenue, Cassville. Again, pretty close to Six Flags.

Ok, New York isn't a foreign country, but it wouldn't hurt to brush up on your Yiddish, just in case. An undeveloped plot of land on Staten Island, New York.

In the woods north of Lakehurst Naval Air Center, and east of Success Lake. Fairly close to Six Flags Great Adventure.

Also, the Newburgh, New York graticule's geohash is in New Jersey. It's just off Stanley Street, near Algonquin Waters, in Lakes 'n Reservoirs territory. The closest town is Macopin, between West Milford and Bloomingdale.

A partly developed parcel of land between East Brunswick and the Raritan River. (The map says Milltown, but I used to live there, and I say it's E. Brunswick.)

The side lot of a house on Soldier Hill Road, Oradell.

The Allentown, PA geohash is on the New Jersey side today, at a farm off Route 94 near Vail.

Off Black River Road, near Pottersville. Looks like private property, part of a big estate maybe? Just a bit south of Hacklebarney State Park.

Near the Clark Landing Marina (?) on the Manasquan River, in the town of Point Pleasant Beach.

Route 31 at the northern-most entrance to Spruce Run State Park.

Watergeohash.jpg Round Valley Reservoir. Third water geohash in four days.

Watergeohash.jpg Upper New York Bay. Take the ferry from Bayonne to Manhattan today. Or try the Allentown, PA geohash east of Bloomsbury (Exit 7 on I78/US-22).

East shore of Lake Kinnelon, Between Stone House Rd and the stream to Forge Pond, near Kinnelon.

Watergeohash.jpg Raritan Bay. If you're taking the ferry from the Atlantic Highlands to LaGuardia Airport, you'll get a Water Geohash. Everybody else can try the Allentown, PA geohash near Frenchtown.

Older locations can be looked up using the geohash calculator.
