One day a group from Canberra were on their way to a hash near a small town called Gundaroo. The rather obvious topic of conversation for these new geohashers were the varying probabilities of different geohash achievements, the most unlikely of which is the Couch Potato.

4pm approached, and the hash was getting close. The GPS told us it was maybe a kilometre to our right. So we looked to the right, and low and behold, it looked like someone might win a Couch Potato. Albeit from the confines of their coffin.

In the end the hash was a bit further than the graveyard in Gundaroo, but Owen Elliot, deceased 1880, came very close to being the first person to win a Coffin Potato Hash!

(It seems he would have simultaneously gotten the underground geohash achievement. SO close!)

Special Note

Coffin Potato Achievers are not required, and should not be assisted, in grinning stupidly as proof for geohashing. Pictures of actual Coffin Potato Geohashers, in general, are discouraged.

Until such time as fake gravestone photographs are discovered, gravestone photographs shall suffice as proof.

On June 22nd, 2008, the geohash point for Cincinnati, Ohio fell on the grave of Phillip Hoenstein, making him the first official recipient of this achievement.
On August 22nd, 2008 the Geohash point for Oslo, Norway fell on the grave of Torina and Halvor Kvernum.
On June 24th, 2009 the Geohash point for Tender, Denmark fell on the grave of Emma and Christian Carstensen of nearby Soholm.
On May 3rd, 2010, the hashpoint for the Mannheim graticule fell on the grave of Gertrud and Otto Ahl.
On May 31st, 2010, the hashpoint for Kenosha, Wisconsin fell on the grave of Sarah Ancelovitz.

On November 23rd, 2012, the hashpoint for Mannheim, Germany fell on the graves of Jllya Forshtat, Berta Melnichenko and Valentina Matsyuk.
On April 14th, 2015, the hashpoint for Munich, Germany fell on the grave of Rita & Icke Grosse.
On July 24th, 2015, the hashpoint for Rovaniemi, Finland fell on the grave of Matti Juhani & Simo Joro.
On 2016-04-16, the hashpoint for Mannheim, Germany fell on the grave of Inge, Anne, Georg and Hermann Puder.
On 2017-06-29, the hashpoint for Kielce, Poland fell on the grave of Eugeniusz Ziaja.
