::I don't mind rearranging my report at all. As I said, my intention was just to get things started and I believe this is maybe the best way to do it. Once things get rolling, I am happy to put those parts together that would otherwise show up again and again. However, there are definitely some individual thoughts so I wouldn't abandon the individual sections as a whole. As far as the galleries go, I kind of like the "show and tell" style with the pictures mixed into the report. I absolutely have no problem if parts of what I've started are taken into a section that is edited by everyone. I do not consider the current state of the page as the best option in the long run; but it is a start. --Zb 07:25, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

:::Individual sections for the reports might be ok, but the gallery should be joined, as it only makes a good whole if combined. About the "show and tell" style - well, I don't like it very much anyway, for a number of reasons, so I'm not going to use it. --Ekorren 07:40, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

piguy, you just wrote: "I hope the pictures from the underwater camera turn out..." Now, just to be sure: Were you using the camera and doing your underwater geoflash, like, at the same time?! --Zb 20:46, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Gratuitous comments

... started coming in while the expedition was still in the planning phase

^ WTD?! You call this a spontaneous adventure? :D -- relet 14:48, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Hey, some of us just appear to be serious train nerds, and this is part of our favorite hobby. ;-) --Zb 16:47, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
I am starting to think there should be an OCD ribbon for very detailed planners like us ;-) We're so Hanners of QC, aren't we? --Zb 17:08, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
I'm not :P (And I still am not calling my part detailed planning, but collecting options). Oh, on a scale from Hanners to Marigold, I'm slightly on the M side. Which is no wonder as M is my middle initial but there is no H in my name. --Ekorren 17:11, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
And I still miss detailed advance information about a possible beer garden option at Eibsee: Which brewery provides the beer? How much is it? Do they serve in 0.5l glasses (Halbe) or 1.0l glasses (Maßen)? How much is the beer there anyway? Do they have chestnut trees like a good beer garden should? How bout the menu? Roasted pork? With bread dumplings or with potato dumplings? Good non-meat options like Käsespätzle or Kaiserschmarrn? Obazda? --Zb 17:19, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
I couldn't care less. --Ekorren 17:22, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
Vancouver planning pages can look a bit like that where ferries are involved. And I suppose "Tsawwassen" looks as obscure as "Käsespätzle" if you're not from the place. Oops, "Käsespätzle" is a food. See? -Robyn 17:34, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
Good to know, so we may not yet have scared the Canadians away who are planning to join in. I really look forward to meeting everyone tomorrow, but just riding my bike to a spot not too far away is a good thing, when all I have to plan/remeber is filling a bottle of water and taking it with me. --Zb 17:44, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
Definitely not! Thepiguy may not be huge into planning, but I thrive on it! I'm more than a little OCD! -Srs0 18:06, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
Robyn, while it's true that Käsespätzle do have a weird, Mönster-evil looking word, I still think that Schienenersatzverkehr is the worst word in this whole mess. --Zb 18:54, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
And Schienenersatzverkehr actually is an evil word! It's communist!--Ekorren 19:04, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
Stop it, you're making me hungry. --starbird 11:18, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

AWESOME! I just got THIS: "WARNING: This page is 37 kilobytes long; some browsers may have problems editing pages approaching or longer than 32kb. Please consider breaking the page into smaller sections." Y'all, this is one-hell-of-a-plan! --Zb 20:07, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Yay Democracy!

Man, I envy you guys. Do you mind if I give myself a "Democracy is more important than Geohashing"-gratuitous ribbon for not going ;) ? (for those unaware: European elections are on sunday and I haven't voted yet, otherwise I'd have gone on this awesome expedition as well). Have fun! Koepfel talk 23:31, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

What's a good example for democracy if not this insane page of planning a geohash? ... And off I go; first to vote, then to the train, hooray! --Zb 06:14, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
Good Plan, I'll just do that as well. Does that qualify for a "Democracy Geohash" for voting on your way to the Spot? --Baerenfell 08:03, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
How about this:
Voting.png
Zb and Baerenfell earned the Democracy Geohash Achievement
by going voting on the way to the (47, 10) geohash on 2009-06-07.
and for me:
Voting.png
Koepfel earned the Democracy is more important than Geohashing Consolidation Prize
by going voting instead of geohashing, thereby missing the (47, 10) geohash on 2009-06-07.
Koepfel talk 18:30, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
Oh yeah, I'll get that one too. :D -- relet 19:06, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Amazement submitted from other continents

What's really astounding is that you can take a train to a mountain lake just below the highest peak in Germany. -Robyn 06:10, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Oh, you'll love all the additions to the [Trains Category] once we upload our pictures! Just came back, it was amazing. Report to follow, others are still on their way home. --Zb 18:34, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

webcam!

Why didn't you make us more aware that there was a webcam where we could have watched your whole expedition live. (Or even created a timelapse video). -- relet 19:09, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Well, while we really had beatiful weather on the lake, the Zugsitzgipfel was in clouds almost the entire time. I could only see it twice, for less than a minute each time. The idea of seeing such a video sounds great though, but believe me, it would have been nothing but a big blurry blur. --Zb 19:17, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
Webcam archive is here. Nothing but clouds. Good to hear the weather was still okay. Koepfel talk 19:22, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
How about a Webcam achievement in addition to the Media Attention Achievement? Or, worse, a Total Surveillance CCTV Achievement? --Zb 23:05, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

The reports and gallery

Ok, so I've put the talk to the Talk: page and the plans talk to the /Plans page to make room for the expedition reports. I hope everyone agrees about the rearrangement. Everything is still there, just in different places.

As far as the reports go, I have created headlines for each group, because I assume that even on the way to Munich and back home, when we didn't travel together, there was stuff worth telling.

Maybe it's a good idea to start putting things together in the different sections (and if it's only to avoid numerous editing conflicts); however, this of course should not keep us from also setting up a part where we can put stuff together in a combined effort once we got started.

I hope everyone agrees with the layout, at least for now. I think it's a good start. --Zb 19:43, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

I would prefer to do more of a joint report instead of have nine reports telling the same story over and over again. Especially I would strongly prefer to make a joint gallery, with choosing the best pictures and sorting them chronologically resp. thematically, to make one whole and select the best choices from every camera, like done on 2009-02-22 51 10. If everyone does his own report, there will not be a continuous story, but both many gaps and lots of overlaps, making it hard to read. I see that Zb has started it totally the other way round and made a report for his own with pictures mixed in. Zb, would you mind to reorganize your report? --Ekorren 07:14, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
I don't mind rearranging my report at all. --Zb 07:25, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

geocashing?

Maybe an achievement suggestion: Earning money (or finding some?) while on the expedition, and returning with more physical money in the wallet than before. Doing something that increases your paycheck at the end of the month does not count. -- relet 22:22, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Maybe just a typo by someone who's tired, though ;-) --Zb 22:58, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
